It's my understanding that the creation of a PS3 version was one of the biggest concessions SE gave in order to get Japan on board with the reboot, though. It's possible we wouldn't have ARR at all if it weren't for the PS3 release (because as others have noted, Japan is slower to adopt new home consoles).
