When is the PS3 Version going to get cancelled?

I got a chance to play the PS3 version of FFXIV and it's not that pleasing. Basically playing a glitchy unfinished game. Kind of like Assassins Creed Unity with the whole bug fiasco. The game looks terrible and is just overall a bad game experience.

There is going to be another expansion just a matter of when. Why hasn't SE team announce a ps3 cancellation? The ps3 version is holding this game back. When the ps3 version gets cancelled there is no more excuses for extra retainers, more space etc. A Big graphic update is needed because this game is going to feel outdated pretty fast with so many AAA games coming out on the console.

They could take risks and put in stuff content wise they haven't because of the limitation of the ps3. Would be better if the next expansion was already being made without the ps3 so we can be surprised not get the same content.

"Glitchy and unfinished?" Now, the only time I played the PS3 version as during beta, but even back then XIV was neither of these compared to the PC version. Heavensward content on PS3 supposedly has some issues because the zones are too large and Diadem basically being impossible, yes, but I'm pretty sure none, or at least few, of the HW issues have anything to do with glitching or the port being unfinished. Its issues are due to the PS3 hardware, not the XIV software; you'd usually use "glitchy" and "unfinished" as adjectives for software.

I understand believing that the PS3 is limiting development of the game, but can you at least not directly lie about the state of the PS3 version?

PS3 is barely playable as it is, more content isn't going to help. PS3 FFXIV is already past due.

No offense, but you are coming across like a troll here. PS3 plays all ARR content well enough for players to have completed the Final Coil on PS3. I don't remember there being any unfinished or glitchy elements from when I played on PS3, and so I can only conclude that you are trolling since reality conflicts with your assertions.

PS3 support will more than likely end with Heavensward, that is, all content up to the 4,0 Expansion will be available on PS3, unless SE elects to go back and re-work some of those zones. I think that is highly unlikely, and so for the foreseeable future PS3 players will be able to play FFXIV 2.0-3.x, regardless of the ravings of anti-PS3 rants.

And do we want to know why they did? Here you go: 32GB PlayStation Vita Memory Card

As someone said earlier of the anti-PS3 nonsense, you are adopting a very western centric view. There are in fact plenty of games on Vita for other regions, Japan/Asia in particular. Which works out very well for gamers who want their JRPG and other genre typical of Japanese gaming.

The cost of a 32GB memory card is a one off investment that pays dividends. When people routinely throw away $600 on the latest iPhone that can't even take a memory card of any kind, it's pretty silly to complain about the cost of Vita.

However, The "kick a man when he's down" mentality of western gamers and journalists had every Sony product regardless of division being trashed across the board in the US and US dominated regions thanks to past issues in an unrelated business division.

If you soberly analyze Vita, it's a very good mobile gaming platform, and quite well priced compared to $600 smartphones. I guess that's why people only play free to play games on phones, but buy real games on Vita. Vita is a good product, that was rather unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival, by a gleefully vindictive gaming media and anti-Sony community in the West. That is it's biggest problem.

I actually do own a Vita, and bought it when the naive promise that Sega was going to release PSO2 here for it on the Vita, a promise that hasn't played out very well.

Now, as far as the statement about the price of the console goes... you're missing core details which change the valuation of that media I mentioned quite strongly.

First, yes it is compared well against the price of Smartphones, however... the Vita is not a smartphone. It it a personal, handheld gaming device whose main competition in the hand-held market is the DS and 3DS. They are reasonably priced against each other on the baseline, until you realize that if you want to do any of the wonderful downloading of games (that the 3DS does natively, mind you), you must have one of their memory cards. Note that the base $199 WiFi unit does not come with a memory card so you will be required to buy at least the 16GB one unless you got the bundle that comes with an 8GB (which why wouldn't you since you get the card and a game for the same price?).

The problem beyond that lies not so much in the price of the memory cards, themselves, but the fact that the cards are little more than SD cards in a proprietary form-factor which means you can't use standard SD cards with them even though the internal specs are virtually the same. What does that mean? Standard 16GB SanDisk SD Card is $8.44 on Amazon. 16GB Vita card is $34.99. That is 4x the price... for what is basically the same tech squeezed into a different box where the "box" has all the specialized functionality of a SD Micro adapter (which, by the way, is only like $4 so you bring the price of the SD card to $12 and the Vita card is still nearly 3x the cost).

Vita had all the chances to be a good product, and honestly it is a powerful system and I would have loved to have seen more from it then we have. However, despite the system being more economically priced now (it was much more than $199 on release), the cost of those cards in addition to the lack of any real content released on it were a downright killer and have kept it from gaining any real traction in the market.

Actually, that has nothing to do with the issue of 'value' of the card. The cards are the primary mode of storage for the Vita. Yes, an absolute comparison against 1 specific form of flash memory SD cards makes the Vita's memory look poor, that's not entirely true compared to other memory formats. You also skip over the fact that those full size SD cards you mention are at fire sale prices, while Micro-SD cards (the current standard) are more expensive. However, this is all fiddling at the fringe.

Yes, you can poke fun at the cost of the storage media, but a fully decked out Vita with 32GB was still far less than an iphone. Try playing shooters without sticks and buttons. Smartphones are fine for certain types of games but fall flat on their face hard when 'serious' games come up.

The point though that I was making was that the Vita failed to gain traction in the Western markets because it was mortally wounded by the media and gamer community before it even launched. Rather than give the device a chance, it was quite literally pronounced dead before launch. The post I was responding to was making a point about developers not developing for the Vita. I was pointing out that while that is true in the west, in Japan, Vita has much more traction, and as a gamer with a Vita in the West, it's pretty awesome to have access to as many good games from Japan as we have. Some games are even making the jump from Vita to PS4 - Sword Art games, for example.

But, if you are so sensitive to price, I should ask why game at all? All gaming platforms cost $$, some more than others. Games cost $60 brand new on major platforms - which would net you almost 2 Vita 16GB cards. So you are basically dismissing the product because it's primary means of storage costs half of a game. Really?

You seem awfully over sensitive to the cost of one storage card that you will likely never replace.

Either way, it's a real shame gamers in the West behave like sheeple, the consequence is that they miss out on the awesome games on the Vita while they play their free Angry Birds clone.

Well said. I bought my Vita on launch day right as the store opened and I was even late for work that day. I don't regret anything. It's a great product, people are just blinded by biased media and opinions. Specially since Nintendo was dominating the handheld market. I personally feel that PSVita has more high quality games than the 3DS and I am saying that owning two 3DS and Vita.

Graphics update? I'm pretty sure XIV is doing pretty good on the MMO front. It's not competing with normal PS games - it's competing in the MMO market which generally has lower standards for graphics than normal AAA titles.

It should be cut off most everyone has a playstation 4 by now.

I have it and a ps3 but no point in playing it on ps3 because its free without psn+ on both consoles best choice would be the better product.
SE already did the transfer thing thats what I did and only ps3 is used for my old games.

SE probably knows more than us though maybe there are still a lot of people playing the ps3 version, its like when ps2 version was for FFXI nobody really wanted to give it up.

This is true. Here's the thing about the anti-PS3, and I'm going to be blunt: It's a very western-centric viewpoint.
SE is a Japanese company with a Japanese mindset and Japan's average populace tends to not invest in new home consoles as readily as the western market does and they keep their console support for longer. As evidence of this, Japan was releasing physical games on the PS2 for years after we stopped in the west - and they were selling. I believe Seekers of Adoulin was actually the last physical PS2 game? A physical release the west never got at all.

When SE feels that the PS3 version is no longer profitable, or worth the cost of keeping updated, due to how many players (or lack thereof) it has, then and only then will they drop it. Exactly the same as FFXI.

That being said, I do understand and agree with the argument for removing PS3 support, but I do not believe that time is now. Or even in the next 6 months.
