As others have said, it would invalidate the whole system if you were to be able to comm someone simply on the merit that they comm'd you. So no.

I'd be fine with seeing who my commendations are from - after the instance is over and everyone's already comm'd/or not. And since if you go in with a premade you can't comm, the comms are only from DF randoms who are probably not on your server and 999/1000 you'll never see them again. Couple that with the fact that it would probably take a bit of effort to implement and, no, sorry I'll pass. It's not worth it.

As for the comm all suggestion, I like it in principle, but there has to be some disincentive or else there's no reason NOT to comm all every run, which inflates the amount of comms artificially and also makes the achievements rather worthless. Also, what if 3/4 did really awesome to make up for that one bad? He gets the comms too and now he has a ton of comms hiding the fact that he's a bad. Again, couple these downsides with the implementation energy and it's just not worth it, imho. I've got no problems with the was the comm system works. It's also pretty meaningless as the only thing it earns you is (meh) glamor.

I agree with this fairly much, and I see no harm in being able to see how the comms were doled out afterwards (mostly because I'm curious about how often people actually don't give out a comm because it takes too long to click 2 things...), but the comm all thing defeats the purpose of the system in general. However, as far as giving comms to people who don't deserve them 'covering up' how bad they may be... I'm not sure there's a way to tell how many comms someone has without checking their achievement status on the Lodestone and even that only gives you the minimum threshold of what they've gotten. And, while the comm system rewards are mainly glamour... I can't tell you how much I've been itching to get that Parade Chocobo... so close... >.>

Actually, the more I think about it, the more I think the system is not working as intended. It really is just 100% achievement and glamour.

    1. It's not easy to see how many comms someone has. How are we supossed to assess someone's skill/effort if we can't even see it?
    2. You have one pool of comms, but you can get comms playing as any job. If I have 1000 healer comms and I switch to my tank, those comms mean absolutely nothing when assessing my skill as a tank, but it may look like I'm good at it.
    3. Your pool of comms doesn't take into account rate of growth. I will look like a bad compared to someone who's been playing since launch, but I've only been playing since september.

If they REALLY wanted comms to be meaningful in terms of knowing who's putting in effort toward a group, they'd let you see comms on the examine/search info screen and it would be average comms per group instance grouped by role. I would think a person performing decently would look something like this: Tanking roles = 1.25 comms per instance, Healing roles = 1.05 comms per instance, DPS roles = 0.65 comms per instance.

But as it is, comms tell us nothing and so...glamour. Now I'm jaded and may very well start neglecting to comm people too. XO

Wait.... "Commendations"? I thought they were "condemnations". You mean I've been commending everyone I've condemned? Well, I feel so much more "casual" now.
