XIV's base inventory consists of 100 general inventory, two retainers at 175 inventory each, and 300 armory chest inventory. Using 22-slot bags, WoW's base inventory is 104 general inventory, a bank at 182 inventory, and 160 void storage inventory. That looks like a significant advantage in XIV's favor.

WoW, however, has a major inventory advantage in that it does not restrict your ability to send mail to your own alts. In addition to the physical capacity increase that provides, items in the mail system do not take up space, so you can free up vast amounts of inventory simply by mailing non-bound items to an alt.

On top of that, WoW is joining many other modern MMOs in its next expansion by moving to a glamour system where appearances are simply unlocked, and it will no longer be necessary to hold onto old items.

Even FFXI has vastly superior systems for dealing with old gear that players may be holding onto for appearance or sentimental reasons. Armor Depository NPCs have existed in the game for over a decade, allowing to you store specific complete sets of armor in exchange for a Key Item, which takes no inventory space at all. More recently, Porter Moogles were added to the game, allowing a player to store large numbers of items from certain events in exchange for Storage Slips, which greatly relieves inventory strain.

It was mentioned as something that would be coming with the release of Heavensward, but failed to ever materialize.
