It would be amazing if SE would contact the developers of DC Universe Online, which is both free to play as well as pay to play. The style system in that game trumps the glamour system in FFXIV in spades. It's basically exactly what we want plus more. If you equip an item once you can use the appearance (style) of that item regardless of whether you have the item or if you tossed it. There are items in that game that you can purchase which are simply styles which are one time use items that add the style of that item to your available choices of styles for whichever armor slot that the style was for.

That's what we need. If DC Universe can do it, there's no reason that SE can't implement a similar system. I seriously feel that the dev team should actually play DCUO and check out their style (glamour) system, and if necessary contact their dev team if they need any assistance with how to implement a similar system in FFXIV.

Yes there is several potential reasons why SE couldn't replicate what DC Universe did in FF14. The two games run on different engines. The capabilities of those two engines and what their limitations, strengths and weaknesses are could quite likely be completely different.

I have 2 characters at 60 plus all DoH and DoL. While I don't have a lot of storage left on my 4 retainers, I can manage.

Just like in real life, it's useful to "look in your closet" every so often. If you haven't used it in a long period, time for a good-will donation! De-clutter regularly.

What irks me is that Yoshi and his team mentionned that they have such limitations for inventory.. (and lots of other things..)

but you can purchase up to 6 retainers.. which open up more inventory.. like 6 times as much! So where's the inventory problem, cause if everyone got 6 more retainers, we would have such a big limitation, right?

So I feel we are lied to. >.< (for lack of use of better words in this forum)

Cash is what drives games. While I understand, be upfront and do not lie to your customers.

Guess being a PR doesn't only have perks.

I have all 60s and I have no issue with space. Figure out what you don't need; the game is so incredibly generous when it comes to inventory space that I can only think many of you have not actually played many other games like this one

If you have all 24 jobs at 60, and having BASIC gear with them, you need at least 288 slots to depost their gear. It's 12 slots x 24 jobs (it's actually slightly higher because crafters have both MH and OH and RIGHT NOW eso gear is job locked).
One retainer has 175 slots for a total of 350 slots. 350-288=62. This is the space remaining in your retainer.

However you have the armory so part of this issue is simplified and actually good, with essentially 25 slots for each piece of gear and essentially covering the basic equipment on every job. FOR NOW.

If in the next expansion we'll get 3 more jobs, we'll have space only for 1 more into our armory while the other 2 will be set into the retainer (of course that is if we don't get space still). Then another expansion comes out, 3 more jobs, and more equipment will be stashed into the two retainers we (might) have at that time. On the long run, we'll be forced to buy at least one more.

In addition, I'm being generous with the info and pretending that you never have two gear of the same kind. Afterall isn't it common to keep part of your gear with you to level up other jobs? Isn't it common to keep more gear for the glamour? Sure your armory can keep all of your 24 jobs at bay with ease, but i'm 100000% sure that you also keep other things into your retainer that's not strictly gear.

As of now, the inventory space is more of a nuisance than a real issue, but if SE doesn't add more space soon enough (which is a high possibility, knowing how the shop is going rampant)) our armory space won't be enough and we'll have to start clogging the two retainers we have with extra armor that we don't use.

Sure right now the game looks generous, but I bet that you won't say the same in a few years...and I'm sure of it!

PS: I hope I counted the number of jobs correctly.

BASIC gear don't need inventory space, because everything still find space in the armory chest.
And the only one where the space will run out with more jobs is the weapon categorie (i hope they increase the armory chest before that).
In all the other categories is still enough space, thanks to some classes sharing gears.

    armory chest update? yes
glamour catalogue (where you can choose a gear that you once owned)? why not
free 3rd retainer? not neccessary if SE do the other 2 things.

Ultimately, a glamour catalogue would be the ideal solution. As long as SE is capitalising on people hiring extra retainers, I'm afraid they're in no hurry to find a way to let us store glamour items for free. =/

XIV's base inventory consists of 100 general inventory, two retainers at 175 inventory each, and 300 armory chest inventory. Using 22-slot bags, WoW's base inventory is 104 general inventory, a bank at 182 inventory, and 160 void storage inventory. That looks like a significant advantage in XIV's favor.

WoW, however, has a major inventory advantage in that it does not restrict your ability to send mail to your own alts. In addition to the physical capacity increase that provides, items in the mail system do not take up space, so you can free up vast amounts of inventory simply by mailing non-bound items to an alt.

On top of that, WoW is joining many other modern MMOs in its next expansion by moving to a glamour system where appearances are simply unlocked, and it will no longer be necessary to hold onto old items.

Even FFXI has vastly superior systems for dealing with old gear that players may be holding onto for appearance or sentimental reasons. Armor Depository NPCs have existed in the game for over a decade, allowing to you store specific complete sets of armor in exchange for a Key Item, which takes no inventory space at all. More recently, Porter Moogles were added to the game, allowing a player to store large numbers of items from certain events in exchange for Storage Slips, which greatly relieves inventory strain.
