I think a solution might be somewhat similar to something Blade & Soul did. You have a separate wardrobe that can store outfits, thus alleviating a spot in your inventory. So for FFXIV, I'd suggest the very same, with it being able to store your glamour pieces. That, or simply being able to toss the item once its appearance is glamoured onto another would go a long way to helping storage without overloading the servers. In fact, the latter wouldn't even touch them at all. I have Lady Clogs and Amatsu Haidate glamoured for my craft set-- with both of those items stuffed right back into the armoire.

Unfortunately, I don't see them changing much, what with this effectively limiting the number of retainers people will purchase. Granted, a work around to this is leveling an alt and asking to use your Free Company's chest to swap items from time to time.

You could be right....if we didn't have the chance of having 23 classes into one character. I still have space in mine BUT I am running low even by focusing only on the fighting classes (I'm gonna do crafting and gathering later).
Per se, this isn't a big issue YET, but knowing SE i wouldn't be the least surprised if they wouldn't add more retainer space in the future, yet we have 30 classes to level up. At that point, it won't be any more acceptable, to a point that we have to buy retainers just to keep our gear deposited. At that point, might as well go on a f2p game and spend 10 bucks on an inventory storage: it's a one time purchase for one thing!

My point is simply one: those two games I mentioned (but you can apply this also to any mmorpg that doesn't allow multiclassing) have far more better implementation of the inventory, simply because there's just one "bank" per character and it's normal to not have them big: you don't need a lot of space on one character, so it's acceptable.

In this game, where you can have 23 jobs - meaning that you'll have approximately 276 class equipment (which means nothing else BUT gear and weapons) - the inventory space is starting to show its limit and the ONLY WAY to possibly add more space is to pay an additional fee on your sub because....I dunno, weren't we supposed to get additional space at the expansion release?

And don't get me the "release better content yet" excuse: we're still starving and the biggest stuff we got was a crappy minigame (LoV) and a crappy dungeon (diadem). If i had to salvage something out of this mess is probably Thordan...and that's also dead!

I like to glamour. Not just higher end gear but gear from all levels my job can wear. Add to that the rarer materials, various items and it's definitely a problem. I solved it for the time being though by discarding/selling everything except for my main job and retiring the other jobs, although I kept a few things for a secondary job. That combined with the crafter/gatherers is itself more than enough to try and deal with, especially when combined with trying to gear them. For a game that wants to encourage you to play all the jobs there really should be a better solution.

It would be amazing if SE would contact the developers of DC Universe Online, which is both free to play as well as pay to play. The style system in that game trumps the glamour system in FFXIV in spades. It's basically exactly what we want plus more. If you equip an item once you can use the appearance (style) of that item regardless of whether you have the item or if you tossed it. There are items in that game that you can purchase which are simply styles which are one time use items that add the style of that item to your available choices of styles for whichever armor slot that the style was for.

That's what we need. If DC Universe can do it, there's no reason that SE can't implement a similar system. I seriously feel that the dev team should actually play DCUO and check out their style (glamour) system, and if necessary contact their dev team if they need any assistance with how to implement a similar system in FFXIV.

I have 2 characters at 60 plus all DoH and DoL. While I don't have a lot of storage left on my 4 retainers, I can manage.

Just like in real life, it's useful to "look in your closet" every so often. If you haven't used it in a long period, time for a good-will donation! De-clutter regularly.

Yes there is several potential reasons why SE couldn't replicate what DC Universe did in FF14. The two games run on different engines. The capabilities of those two engines and what their limitations, strengths and weaknesses are could quite likely be completely different.

Everything the devs said made it sound like we were all getting a free retainer to help with gear storage in HW but when it hit we got "...and you can all buy one more retainer!" So it was kind of a slap in the face.

I only play one job, and I love me some glamour gears, and I had to buy a third retainer, and tons of my friends who craft have to buy extra retainers just so they can keep their mats. Really sucks that you have to pay monthly for storage space, I'd much rather pay a one-time fee, but I doubt SE will change that when they can easily put people in a position where they have to buy extra retainers, and pay monthly for them.

What irks me is that Yoshi and his team mentionned that they have such limitations for inventory.. (and lots of other things..)

but you can purchase up to 6 retainers.. which open up more inventory.. like 6 times as much! So where's the inventory problem, cause if everyone got 6 more retainers, we would have such a big limitation, right?

So I feel we are lied to. >.< (for lack of use of better words in this forum)

Cash is what drives games. While I understand, be upfront and do not lie to your customers.

Guess being a PR doesn't only have perks.
