Hm, I find it hard to keep up personally. After 2 Fire IV's, you need to use Fire I to refresh astral. If you dodged, then Astral drops and then you need to re-apply Fire III which is a long cast - which cuts out a couple more Fire IV's, which is a huge DPS loss. It was enough for me to decide to never play my BLM again after pouring countless hours in to it at 50 and leveling it to 60 / getting the 200 relic for it etc.

Oh, no, you're probably right. Darkside is easier to keep up, since it's a stance that uses mana. So all you have to do to keep it going is make sure your mana doesn't run out while also keeping aggro on targets. DRK can easily manage mana since it has Syphon Strike and Blood weapon to restore mana. I suppose You don't have to keep track of as many things as BLM there.

It's funny because I'm in the opposite boat. I played BLM seriously for a few months back at 50 (during 2.1, I want to say), and was considering making it my main for awhile, but I got bored with it. But, I got pretty curious about Enochian recently (and also wanted to see if I would like it more than SMN so I could have a caster for glamours that I would actually use) and took BLM to 60 finally, and I'm having more fun with BLM now than I do most other DPS. It's definitely a pain to maintain everything at times, but I've found that the high from actually successfully managing it on a movement-heavy fight is well worth the effort.

I know several career BLMs that abandoned it in favor of SMN though, and I can totally see why they did.

It is A LOT harder to keep going esp on movement intense encounter or bosses that "hop away" and get untargetable.
Timings are very strict and I don't think BLM is balanced around a 100% Enochian uptime.

if you lose Enochian you fall back to the 50s rotation.

This is true; I leveled Blk for pvp purposes but have swapped it out for roulettes to help fc members when the tank slot is taken. Getting used to the long Fire/Blizz IV casts in movement heavy fights took awhile to get used to, and actually made me so embarrassed at my performance I had to go back to the House dummy and "git gud" xD
