Why are low standards for dps acceptable?

Since sports analogies are unpopular, how about this:

You do a group project in a college class with 3 other people. You set deadlines and goals and 3 of you meet them, but 1 doesn't. They don't care because it's a low level college class and they'll never see you again. The 3 of you pick up for their lack of effort and get the group an A or a B, since you don't want to get a poor grade, thus earning the slacker an A or B as well. They go onto other classes and never see you again. (I'm sure this has happened to a few of us on this forum.)

No they're not. Sometimes that slacker will do something but it's so half-assed that the other members of the group will have to work harder in order to put in for their lack of effort.

I can live with mistakes and an inperfect rotation. But I don't tolerate willfull ignorance. For example: A DRK in Dusk Vigil with an ilvl 47 weapon

I refuse to adapt to this kind of behaviour. Theres no excuse for it. Doing anything more than auto attack alone would get me aggro as MNK. But I didnt pull my punches (pun) to make absolutely clear that the problems this caused were on HIS end, and that he frankly had no business being in that dungeon at the time. Sure, I couldve just left. But this guy needed to get the facts spelled out to him. He's not going to learn otherwise. Eventually he was kicked because he went into foul language defensive mode as soon as he was asked why he just didnt buy a ilvl 115 white weapon.

My point is, some people need tough love. Their feelings are going to get hurt. But they need to lose the training wheels and put on the big boy pants. Theyre not playing alone, theyre hindering other people who DO make an effort.

But this is a video game! There aren't real people controlling the other players! You should only consider yourself!

Do people consider this elitism? Because that's stupid. Not knowing how to play your class generally means that your special ed classes didn't teach you how to read and you lack common sense.

I haven't played any other MMORPG where you could do 80% of your job potential and still be considered an elitist. Final Fantasy XIV - The game which makes you gud.

I rember on tonberry the unofficial jp eng server i used to see the vote dismiss box come up atone every say 5-10 df and never have i seen people waste their breath telling the bad person they are bad. but really thats the best way to teach someone who plays bad if they get kicked enougth maybe they will try to find out why then learn they are bad and need to git gud.

on Masamune I have yet to see anyone get vote dismissed so must be a more elite eng thing to do.

I haven't played any other MMO but there's just no reason not to always do your best. I mean, it doesn't take much effort. You don't even need food/pots to clear things unless you're doing early prog or want to clear things faster. Regardless, people should know how to do their openers and rotations and there's just no reason to slack or not use skills.

I got told I was bad around when I was first playing and I was playing NIN. I went and learned how to play the class after that and then learned how to play every other class I regularly wanted to play. It takes no effort and you don't even need to be a basement dwelling nerd. I don't see why it's so difficult for people to read and figure things out.
