Agreed! I personally like the new dark undertone, as it tells me the game is probably going to become more mature.

You can have flying islands, an unlimited abyss, and all that sort and still make it realistic - which is something the FF series is known for. Mithras/Miqo'tes for instance actually do look like they'd be what such concepts would look like if they were in the real world, even if there is no such thing as a catgirl in the world. Everything in FFXI does in fact look realistic, even if the concepts themselves aren't realistic, which is what makes it realism to begin with.
