I'm not sure you understood what I said. The location is irrelevant. I'm referring to the UI not standing out but instead looking like it is painted onto the scene in the background.
That's my point. They chose a place where they colors from the UI, its textures (of the layman variety), etc. all blend together in this particular instance of the screenshot. I think the UI looks normal and just like I'd expect a FF to provide, unlike our current uninspired UI. But that's subjectivity and we're not here for that in this topic.
I'm perfectly comfortable with the news that it's real-time, a screenshot from the game. It's still under development, anyway, and could still change from now till release.
In this article (search 'photoshop') the author takes a look at the screenshot in Photoshop and finds evidence that the UI was indeed painted on, so you could be right, and I think you are.
Either way, I'm excited about the new engine and floored that they've been working on it in secret for the past several months and have it working. I can't wait for the first video preview of it. I hope they don't hold off until next E3 to give us a glimpse.
