    Define 'skill'?

    Without parsers, without actual worthwhile data about the system to work with, there's no way to determine mechanical effectiveness other than eyeballing a bunch of damage numbers flying around.

    I've never played WoW, so I don't have firsthand experience with the UI addons (other than an aesthetic judgement of "they look ugly but incredibly useful, I wish I'd had stuff like this on Red Mage in FFXI"), but I'd much rather have the freedom to mod the UI than not, and it's a symbol of forward-thinking game design in general.

    And, yeah, I'm pretty sure this is the mouse/keyboard interface; how many times do they have to say "there'll be two seperate UIs, one for mouse/kb and one for controller" before it gets through?

    What happened to the good ol' days when people played games for fun and not who's numbers were bigger than other people's numbers?

    If I hold hate, the mages cure/nuke, the DD damage and the support do their job...I DON'T CARE about who's putting out more damage or who's cures are stronger.

    If you're really going to throw a fit because "We could have killed that 6 seconds faster!" then you need to re-evaluate why you play MMORPGs.

    Im actually going to be surprised if SE releases their API for full addons, my guess is they will allow GUI addons to change the look of things.

    Yes. We plan on implementing full support for Add-ons. For this reason, we had to completely overhaul the UI script engine.
    When it comes to the default UI, for example, we will show the Monster's hate level in a such and such way, but because we'll still be passing the packets of data along to our players, the playerbase may feel free to create Add-ons that further improve such a feature.
    I agree its unlikely we will see things like Bossmods but who knows, one click healing very likely, DPS meters are just parsers, we already have those.

    yeah i think small stuff that adds convenience will be nice, god knows i dont need to click 4 times to craft something maybe a mod to skip the confirmation step in crafting, and easier healing like you mention.

    The more I look at this screenshot, the more it is looking like just a really good piece of art again. Especially when you see it up close. The UI is not crisp at all like you would expect a UI to be. It just blends into the rest of the scene. In a real screenshot the UI jumps out at you, an obvious overlay. I dunno...

    In any case, whether this is a real SS or not, if the game looks like that in 2.0 it will get a thumbs up from me.

    It's real, as well as:
    GameWatch - from the picture the quality looks different
    YoshiP - With current drawing engine we can’t display the shadows correctly. With the new engine light areas will be light, dark areas will be dark; we will make this part work and make sure it stands out. Also having ambient occlusion
    And

    GameWatch - Are the background also real time?
    YoshiP - This screenshots background is real time.
    GameWatch - With PC version you can still do 60 FPS?
    YoshiP - Yes you can, however with current engine it uses too much video chip power. We will be carefure (laugh) I mentioned earlier but after receiving requests from players we added a limiter to limit to 30FPS. When setting at 30FPS I think the fan sound will be different. That part was also weak point about the drawing engine. For example this screenshot effect, this effect is already in FFXIV.
    GameWatch - with shadow it looks totally different.
    YoshiP - I beleive it’s different. Current engine’s processing for effect is low; we remade the effect engine as well and shader amount will change. However this means the character hair will also be affected so at the timing of the New FFXIV in order to listen to players request we want to allow players to go through character making again.

    I knew when yoshi-p took over his idea was to make it more western and change the overall game to his liking this is why i want tanaka or someone else. It does not even stand up too the look of final fantasy feel at all it look like a western game they better off calling it something else when it get release for PS3 then final fantasy xiv. that just how i feel about that picture it does not look as good as now i don't understand why they could not carry that over too the new tool they using if that really how it going to look they going to piss off a lot of ppl but i guess they don't care because they trying to get wow players which would just quit and return back to wow or blizzard new mmo oh well it was fun while it last i stay long enough to see more info on the new look maybe ingame video and then i make my mind about staying or not.

    also by all mean i not saying it look bad it just look like shit vs ffxiv now. FFXIV look like that from 1 day then i go look awesome like hell then but seeing FFXIV 1.0 and FFXIV 2.0 i be more happy with 1.0 type of look any day of the week if that how it going to look.
