The new concept screenshot is a real-time in-game render!

The more I look at this screenshot, the more it is looking like just a really good piece of art again. Especially when you see it up close. The UI is not crisp at all like you would expect a UI to be. It just blends into the rest of the scene. In a real screenshot the UI jumps out at you, an obvious overlay. I dunno...

In any case, whether this is a real SS or not, if the game looks like that in 2.0 it will get a thumbs up from me.

It's real, as well as:

GameWatch - from the picture the quality looks different
YoshiP - With current drawing engine we can’t display the shadows correctly. With the new engine light areas will be light, dark areas will be dark; we will make this part work and make sure it stands out. Also having ambient occlusion

YoshiP - This screenshots background is real time.

GameWatch - With PC version you can still do 60 FPS?
YoshiP - Yes you can, however with current engine it uses too much video chip power. We will be carefure (laugh) I mentioned earlier but after receiving requests from players we added a limiter to limit to 30FPS. When setting at 30FPS I think the fan sound will be different. That part was also weak point about the drawing engine. For example this screenshot effect, this effect is already in FFXIV.

GameWatch - with shadow it looks totally different.
YoshiP - I beleive it’s different. Current engine’s processing for effect is low; we remade the effect engine as well and shader amount will change. However this means the character hair will also be affected so at the timing of the New FFXIV in order to listen to players request we want to allow players to go through character making again.

So it's a downgrade thank that all i needed to know i guess i see how the game look if it look too much like shit i just quit. Right now the game look awesome i can't believe they could not do something about it without switching the overall look -.-

I knew when yoshi-p took over his idea was to make it more western and change the overall game to his liking this is why i want tanaka or someone else. It does not even stand up too the look of final fantasy feel at all it look like a western game they better off calling it something else when it get release for PS3 then final fantasy xiv. that just how i feel about that picture it does not look as good as now i don't understand why they could not carry that over too the new tool they using if that really how it going to look they going to piss off a lot of ppl but i guess they don't care because they trying to get wow players which would just quit and return back to wow or blizzard new mmo oh well it was fun while it last i stay long enough to see more info on the new look maybe ingame video and then i make my mind about staying or not.

also by all mean i not saying it look bad it just look like shit vs ffxiv now. FFXIV look like that from 1 day then i go look awesome like hell then but seeing FFXIV 1.0 and FFXIV 2.0 i be more happy with 1.0 type of look any day of the week if that how it going to look.

I seriously doubt you even know what the "Final Fantasy" feel is. Also, Tanaka had his shot and it's because of him we're waist high in choco dung.

The new graphics and UI look like an improvement to me, and the interface feels more "Final Fantasy" than it does right now.

Look once again i can care less about the UI i can change that too look like FFXI like i'm doing now like FFXIV making my chat log big and setting it how i like it. But you can't sit there and tell me the graphics are a improvement from FFXIV now? If playing at 720p at high setting with DOF look awesome i wonder how my game would look at 1080p. It's not improvment when it come to the Chars if they telling us the hair and stuff may not look the same -.- it not a improvements from today ffxiv and ffxiv 2.0 the only thing that is a improvements is oh look shadows and lighting work now Don't know why they could not done that with the new Tool without losing the feel of the game looking at the screenshot when it came out both me and my gf and friends thought one thing "WoW,aion,rift,tera. not even talking about the UI talking about the coloring and the art work.

They made crystal tool work with FFXIII "Ya i know it's offline game" But they could at leave convert the type of art work over to the new one.

Tanaka said many time they needed more time and even under yoshi-p it going to take other 1year to even fix the game so you can't say that Tanaka had a shot when they did not even give it too him just left so it could save the game. He said in a interview the game not ready for 2010 i don't know how many time the dev said it but thecompany never care or listen that the company problem not the dev team. It's costing even more money just to fix old ffxiv and making a new ffxiv. The matter of the fact is the crystal tool was the issue in doing anything and the cheap servers if the old main team could use the new stuff i think it would look the same as today but still have that type of UI i be fine or even if the new team could have done that.

neizero: i play ffxiv for hours it's not that it just luck i never had luck in ffxi i did endgame for days at week and never got anything beside black belt and few good items. I just had really bad luck in ffxi and even in ffxiv when it come to finding a good linkshell or drops or just the chance of getting something over someone else. But w/e there no way i can make you believe me on that.

And the fact that hair and stuff are going to be different....that doesn't have to be a bad thing. It could very well mean that people will want to adjust their character further with all the upcoming customization options they are having.

And have you considered the players who can't play on max settings? Do you realize how much better these optimized graphics are going to be for those people compared to what they are playing now?

I can't believe you and the rest of you people thinking it look better Fine it look better in the sense of other games in the market but ffxiv now detail and realism win 2.0 any day of the week. optimized graphics? they could have made it work with the new tool and stay with the same look and added more lighting i don't understand why it have to look 100% diff.

I not saying it look bad it look fucking sweet i just waste over 1year and got to like the type of look of ffxiv now i think that my issue with it -.- just to switch over to more of a western type just saying i think all of us waste a lot of time and money just to play FFXIV i'm sure people waste more to play at higher setting and with the new system i can even max out the setting but just enjoy the type of look we had now that all the new one just look like a downgrade from now that all i'm saying it look nice but just see blah over now and talking about the Char not not the area i don't mind if it look like that just the char is what i'm little worry about,.
