Either a toggle to hide it or remove it entirely and have it as a buff, either of them suggestions I'd like.
The only weapon I think it looks even remotely normal on is the High Allagan Pistol, everything else it just looks bad on. Wouldn't mind the animation for firing being changed when in Gauss mode, too, but let's not get ahead of things.
The firing animation is so ugly (as is the weird "wooshing" sound effect), not to mention the way it clips with oGCDs—BRD has the same problem of course). Honestly I wish they'd just scrap them both entirely and rework them.

I'm not so bothered by the change to casting bars if I'm honest (could be refined, tweaked or arranged a bit still, though), just the unsightly animations for both BRD and MCH firing, and of course the hideous Gauss attachment bother me.
Still, I think a mix between cast bar and old BRD/MCH gameplay would have been better. Like, some skills use a cast and the some don't (the bulk of old skills for example would stay fire a move) etc.
This would have been great. MCH in general feels much better than BRD to me personally since it's not always casting, though it still casts enough that I can't really play it seriously. It would have been neat if say, all of the 50+ abilities had cast times under Wanderer's Minuet, but everything pre-50 didn't. That would have added some strategic elements to the gameplay (making sure to use those abilities at points when you can move) while still maintaining the overall mobile gameplay most folks enjoyed with BRD in 2.x.
My main complaint with the cast times is that they're not as long as the GCD, personally. Esuna/Leeches always felt very awkward to me in terms of the rhythm of button presses in a way that most spells don't, and BRD/MCH now feel awkward in the same way. For whatever reason it makes it very hard for me to establish solid muscle memory for the two classes.
Yes, the sound and visuals for both jobs are really a mess right now.![]()

I wish they would make BRD not sound like a gas leak every time they have to cast a weapon skill...
I would rather have it make the gun look like its on fire like its super charged than have that robotic thing spinning on it.
though other than that it doesn't really bug me but fire super charged thing would be better lol
Please SE, don't let these negative neds and nancys influence your design of the gauss barrel. I think it looks great. Some people complain about how it floats off the gun models, however, it does have a foundation in magitek design after all. A simple buff would just be magnitudes of weak sauce.
An option to toggle the visual from the gun model would be fine though.

There's design involved in MCH? Could have fooled me. We should encourage them to actually put in effort with MCH for once. Both a toggle, and lunchboxes/gauss that change with the weapon.
And maybe have the Gauss Barrel and Lunch box models actually change with each weapon?
Both can easily clash with any glamour you have.
If they do make an Off/On Toggle, please include the lunch box and AST's Duel-Disk.
