    How to calculate base quality

I remember finding an equation, or set of equations, to calculate the base (starting) quality of a craft depending on whether the materials were HQ or NQ. I know that if you have all HQ it will be 50% of the total quality (shows as 15% on the quality bar) but it's when there's a mix I have trouble.

Obviously if I already have the mats I can just use the craft log to check but if I don't, or if I'm not in the game, it isn't possible. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the equation(s) or a way to calculate the base quality? I have searched quite extensively with Google but can't find the place where I saw it.

    Thanks. =)

You can get a reasonable approximation by dividing the 50% base quality by the number of mats and then multiplying by the number of HQ mats. There are times when mats are weighted unequally, but I don't think you'll be able to have a general purpose equation to help with that.

Combined ilvl of HQ mats / combined ilvl of all mats * 1/2 * recipe max quality

Material ilvl is not something shown in the game, but various datamine sources have it.

Thanks. I did see an equation that used the ilevel of the mat, the rlevel of the recipe & some other jiggery-pokery mathematics to calculate the value of each one. For example, in a CUL recipe that requires Coerthan Tea Leaves & Table Salt it could show the balance between them (with salt obviously worth much less in this example as lower level). I swear that I bookmarked it & possibly even screenshot it but I can't find it anywhere!

It's not too bad on things like leathers, with two mats, but once you get onto those 5-7 mat recipes it throws a curveball. =(

That could be it! Certainly looks like it would give a very close approximation if not exact. I'll try it out! Many thanks.

I tried the suggested formula but couldn't get it to work with multiple mats of different ilevels. It was 3am so I could have had my spreadsheet-fu messed up but tried several ways.

Why do websites disappear as soon as you really need to use them? XD

    Example Kingcake:
    • 160 Moogle Miniature
    • 133 Highland Flour
    • 120 Yak Milk
    • 142 Okeanis Egg
    • 148 Birch Syrup
    • 15 Tiny Crown
    • 718 Total ilvl
    • Max Quality 8377

With HQ Yak Milk (120) and Okeanis Egg (142) you get 262/718/2*8377=1528 Starting Quality.

*bows* Thank you! That sinks in to my brain much better. You wouldn't believe that I have a Master's Degree that heavily relied on statistics would you? *blush*
