i am pretty good at turning off my brain and running the msq through or to the point i wanna stop at for the time being. so yeah, another alt-aholic here too.
rp, presence on non-main dc, pvp, raid - my reasons for making alts is pretty varied, but i enjoy it.
i probably wont start skipping quests just because i can because there is so much money and exp in those, but for alts' sake for people who would prefer it i see no reason not to give the option.

i just dont think they even want you to have alts. theres a lot of evidence for it sadlyI really want to give my one alt more attention, I really do!
I would love to make more, too!
I'm sure there are lots of RPers (and other players!) that want to make more characters, but find themselves turned off at the lack of Alt-Friendliness in FFXIV.
Lots of players like to play a variety of different characters.
One daunting task I find (and often read complaints about) is the MSQ.
Yes, the game is story driven... But why force players to drag themselves through a crap-load of quests multiple times just to access much of the game on their alts?
Proposal: Group together MSQs relative to where your character is sent and what they do (like when Minfilia sends you to the sylphs for the first time), and when the group of quests is completed on one character, it is considered complete on your account for all characters.
I know, there's an issue. "What if I want to do those quests on my other characters!?!?!" This is where the Neverending Journal in your Inn Room comes in. All the quest chains/groups can be flagged to be redone on all characters. Just hit a "do these quests" button and head on over to the quest giver that starts it. Ok, maybe there's another issue of "What about the quest rewards?" The rewards will be given the first time the character does the quests, but no more rewards for repeating the quests.
"But what about the chocobo license quest?" Simple: Just make it a non-MSQ quest that unlocks at level 20 and offered at all the Grand Company HQs.
And... maybe the issue of story related dungeons and the primals... I don't know how those quests would be made mandatory, unless all characters on the account got it unlocked after the first character completes the quest. It's not like you can queue for Ifrit below level... what was it, 20? 25?
TLDR - Make MSQs optional on alts as you complete them on your main, BUT let the players who want to complete them on their alts to continue their progress.
Eh... Maybe this post is more of a rant about doing the long, long list of MSQs on every character.
I would likely have half a dozen alts by now, if it wasn't for the MSQ.

Nevermind ALTS I would just like to gear more than one job without it taking MONTHS of tome lockouts. You end up with this artificial level of flexibility by having all jobs at 90, but most of them are regulated to minimum acceptable gear levels which locks you out of using them in many\most PF groups.
How about each of the job groups (healer/tank/p.dps/r.dps) has its own separate tome with its own cap?
I wish aether currents and duties unlocked were account wide. I hate unlocking flying again and it really sucks to log into my character in another region to play with friends only to realize I haven't unlocked whatever raid we are doing on that character and embarrass myself.
I agree. I didn't read all the 15 pages comments, so sorry if I will say something that have been already said.
First of all I'm super glad in this game there is the chance to have everything in one character, to me it's really great, BUT not all people want to have everything in one character.
There are a lot of reasons, not necessarely related to different races and so on. Personally I like making alts to have different aesthetics related to their specific jobs, different starting zones, rpg etc, but the real the main reason for me is that I get super confused having everything in one character, I tried at first, but it was driving me crazy. So even though I find having everything in one character great, it's just not my playstyle.
Also I don't agree with the statement "the game is designed for one character". I think it's correct up to a certain point, because if it was 100% like this we wouldn't even be able to create alts to begin with.
As for the things I would want, I agree with some of the comments talking about aether currents for example. But even a log out to characters screen option would be already amazing for me hehe

yes ma'aaam!! also the current way raid drops is actually extremely penalizing to people who wanna do honestly more than one thing on one character? idk youtubers go much more better into depth about it, pretty sure xeems/weemo/xenosys or smthn like that has ranted about it somewhereI agree. I am a total alt-addict so yes, I would LOVE more things to make the game more alt-friendly. I'd be ecstatic even if I could just mail things between my own characters, but additional things I'd love is for aether currents to be unlocked and to be able to add my alts as residents of the house one of my characters owns.

Make a bunch of achievements shared by account instead of per character, it would solve alot of things, with exceptions such Ranked PvP, Mentor, ultimate, deep dungeon and stuff down that line.
Anything like counters for fates, the hunt, pvp kills and such may as well just be shared, I mean you can engage that content any level you are, and shortlived in some, but counting.
