    New Scholarly Advice

    First let me introduce myself!

I am Cera a female LaLa looking to be a future scholar healer. With that said, I am a new player located on Adamantoise character name Cera Bella. A pun for Cerabellum.

Anyways, I am new and in need of advice and I have made google my cocobo before beseeching the lovely community.

So I am curious if I should snag the job Scholar then get cross class skills or continue to level conjured to 34 then thaumaturge to 26 then Arcanist to 30 to unlock Scholar. I have read and watched YouTube enough times to give me Ebola.

    What do you all suggest?

Did I mention I was new?

    Also, I like to drink!

Stoneskin isn't "really" needed in dungeons and if your doing raids its most likely that'll you'll be paired with Whm or Astro so chances are they'll have it, but even so its nice to have it and for me personally I have it so I can make sure to stoneskin summoners/scholars pets. Now swiftcast on the other hand is a different matter if anything I'd get it at some point maybe leave it till 50 but you never know what'll happen in the DF in low levels.

Don't skimp out on stoneskin. There are countless threads about whether it's worth it and it is.

I can't say much about stoneskin but....
    Swiftcast?
Girl, go and get that 0
Instant summons and instant ressurrections are really really useful.

You won't need stoneskin until you're 50, so just try to have it by then.

Protect, cleric stance, swiftcast, aero, stoneskin is how I usually keep it. If you'll be doing allot of low level dungeons (pre 40) you might want:

Protect, aero, swiftcast, cleric stance, stoneskin. As the order. That way, after you protect you can remove protect and put cleric stance in its slot without suffering a full cool down reset!

Blizzard is actually a pretty good cross class for AOE spam if you can manage your mana properly.

But I personally use the same cross class skills as the person above but switch Cleric Stance and Protect as damage is so low in low level dungeons it's not really needed your pet can heal everything on it's own if you go in as a Sch.

There are people saying not to bother with Stoneskin, thats silly, cast Stone Skin as the last mob is about to die, then Adlo now you can dps like crazy at the start of the next pull. I rarely use Stoneskin in the middle of a battle as Adlo is much stronger unless there is a big Tank buster coming and my Whm is pre-occupied, you wont really find hits like this outside of Savage though.

Focus on managing your pet healing and learning now to time your mitigation early on, once you hit 60 work on your dps rotation, master all of these and you will be a reliable Scholar. It's the best role in my opinion, the fastest inputs and the most diverse, good luck

With cross class skills, you can always get them after you get SCH to 50 so you have the bonus experience. Swiftcast is amazing, but it is still very possible to get through without it while you're levelling, just don't attempt any end game content until you acquire it.

Anyway my bonus tip for playing SCH would be to not play around with macros too much. Just spend a good hour or so micro-managing your pet and get used to commanding it while healing and doing DPS etc. Macros make the game feel very clunky, and they won't allow you to 'queue' abilities, which you will do a lot as a SCH, so just don't get used to them in the first place and you should be good.

Also as you level, make sure to keep Cleric Stance on your hotbar and practise switching from healing to DPSing in dungeons. Stance dancing is very key to playing SCH, and in dungeons your fairy will be a very good healer herself, so you have a lot more scope to play around with your DPS abilities.

And uhh... maybe play a DPS when you're on the bottle. ;p

they are nice to have but playing 2-3 cls before even starting your mainchar shouldnt be the way to begin with. in my opinion u dont "need" them before you get SCH - backdraw at this point the second you put your soulcrystal on walking on as SCH the community assume that you have a certain skilltoolkit. protect, cleric and swiftcast should be a must have for every healer. stoneskin is, like others already said, a skill which is loved and hated the same way, after it get nerfed some patches ago - you should read the topics about it and make your own choice. as a last note you are able to use more different crosscls skills BEFORE you change to SCH... so if you feel the need to get them you should get them before cls change but yet again like i said in the beginning - if i would start a new game from the scratch i would start with the cls i want to play as my first main... i personally wouldnt be satisfy by progressing the story with a cls i just lvl for a crosscls-skill but thats just my opinion ^^

edit: waaah got ninjad by Kabzy, just wanna thump up her post mucht truth in it - jupp.

I think once you get to level 50 all the classes you level will have 50% bonus exp, so I say take advantage of that and enjoy the story. Anyway:

Scholars may want to get stoneskin -eventually-. It's certainly not a necessary thing to learn right off the bat, and it's not really completely necessary to have. BUT it's a really useful tool, especially since it stacks with SCH's galvanize (shield from succor and adloquium).

Swiftcast from Thaumaturge should take priority when getting cross class skills. Instant spells (even those 8 second raise/resurrections) are the best. You won't absolutely need it unless you plan on doing the super hard content though. It's just convenient otherwise (and boy it's super convenient, instant cast every 60 seconds).

And while leveling your main job you certainly don't need to prioritize getting those classes up yet for cross class abilities. You'll have plenty of time later on, just have fun and enjoy the story (if you're paying attention to it).
