blacklist should ignore accounts

why isnt blacklists set up so that they ignore accounts?
when I use it chances are I never want to hear from the A-hole behind the keyboard again, but the way its set up in most MMO's they can just relog and continue herrassing.

if it ignored the whole account, not only would the herrassing stop it would also screw over gil sellers, get spammed once BOOM they have to get a new account to contact you.

in my head this should be a win win situation.

stop RPing for 2 seconds and you will realise its not the character that is being a butthole (yes I'm cencoring myself because I want SE to see this and not just ban me)

Even though the OP isn't going to read this I would like to voice my agreement...

I have had a situation on another game where a person was sending me very horrible hate messages and when I blocked them they just logged out and made a new character to continue harassing me with. I did report them but it took a long time for the staff to help me and in the meantime the game was so unbearable I stopped playing.

Here I feel very helpless and defenseless against all the annoying gil sellers. It's actually probably the single worst thing about my FFXIV experience and the one thing that makes me reluctant to recommend this game to friends. As much as I have enjoyed exploring Eorzea, this constant barrage of pink text, washing FC chat off the screen, dinging and buzzing noisily over my cut scenes... it's just terrible.

Having multiple characters is not as much of a thing as it is in other MMOs, so I think the payoff would be considerably small in comparison to what seems like a lot of changes that would need to be made to accomodate that suggestion.
For how annoying the RMT situation is, it is still not even remotely as bad as in pretty much any other MMORPG, so yeah. Also, Gilseller accounts get banned for good if you report them, so that pretty much has the same effect as a whole-account blacklisting.
The countless tells you seem to be getting, Niluriel, can't be from the same account anyway, since you can't be logged on with several chracters of the same account at once. So a whole-account blacklisting wouldn't help with your problem.

Not saying I'm totally against the idea (although the way the OP introduced his idea is not exactly helping ), I just don't see the payoff for all the development time it would take to change the affected systems (like interacting with characters that are not even online, or merely something basic like creating a link between alts which have no ingame link to the main character, and so on).

I personally would love to see something like this implemented in some fashion. Perhaps not an arbitrary account-wide blacklist based off one character being added without being reported, but something similar.

Perhaps an update to the reporting function which both enables reporting from the chat box and incorporates an automatic addition of the reportd person to your blacklist, which goes to the extreme of blocking the account connected to that character (without revealing the account name, obviously, as that would be silly) - afterall, if you're reporting the person, chances are you're never going to want to interact with them on ANY character of theirs.

I totally agree with OP and you guys should back him up. I had this same idea and was surprised i was not the only one with it. I hope SE reads this and stop tricking Gil sellers into paying for their account to send tells, thats a lame way to stop them unless you are just looking for a way to get more money

I imagine SE not banning them because they see it as the (RMT) character is spamming your linkpearl communications as opposed to some sweatshop setup of servers in Beijing with a hivemind of scripted bots.
