Great advice in the answers above.

The big thing to me in all of this is to communicate with others in your FC.

Players sometimes join a Free Company, but do not communicate unless someone else directs a question specifically at them. This can become an issue when after weeks or months a player hasn't moved beyond that stage. Because there is little communication with them, it's not clear what advice they need or want to do; without them asking for help, no one really even knows that they need it. Later on such players can become annoyed and disillusioned with the experience, all because they did not communicate with others.

So, please, communicate. Talk, chat, ask for help, ask for advice, offer your own help to others whenever you can. Become part of that FC community. I think you will find it very helpful as you play FFXIV.

+1 on this. Don't expect the lvl 60 veterans to spoon feed you, they're busy grinding through their own progression, but the majority will definitely respond to you and your inquiries, requests for aid. Being silent really only detriments your progress, not theirs.

Well so far I have not actually said anything or asked any questions. I've just been going along the story line and moving along leveling up. But I thought maybe I was doing things wrong or something because I was in a different FC a cpl weeks ago, same thing I didn't talk just did my thing no one talked to me either. It was supposedly for new players. Then one day there was no FC so assuming the booted me I don't want that to happen again for not participating in things or whatever because I'm new to the whole FC thing and don't really know what to do. I don't desire to be spoon fed I like figuring things out on my own but I don't want to get booted again for not talking or whatever reason it was

Pretty lame that they would do that, especially since you're a "sprout"(slang for new player, due to the sprout icon displayed by your name plate) so I'm hoping the FC was dissolved, and you weren't booted.

Anyway, If you ever get sick of Diabolos, and are looking for a new server, check out Zalera; it's low population, but definitely has a cool, "we all know each other" feel and our FC is always open to new players. Check it out on Lodestone, "Redwind" <UNITY> for our FC forums and other details.
