I recently bought the steam version of ffxiv and I am trying to use the steam controller for it, but am experiencing the same troubles. My pc and steam work perfectly fine with the controller, but When I click "calibrate" from the system config menu in game, it recognizes it as an xbox 360 game pad, but does not recognize button presses, and even automatically ends the calibration on it's own after a few seconds of waiting. I'm interested in knowing if anyone else is experiencing the same issues, or if you've figured out a fix. Thanks!
I am having the same problems. Last time I played the game the day before yesterday, and my steam controller worked just fine. Now when I start the game, it doesn't recognize button presses at all. So something has broken during these last 2 days.
There hasn't been any patches to the game, so the problem is probably on Steam side.
Yeah, it's steam beta to be precise. Latest patch is the problem. Gonna miss my profiles.
By opting out of steam beta (for now) it works again.

Similar issue is happening to me with PS4 controller that started just a few days ago. I don't know if the two issues are related but if I launch ff14 with the controller already plugged in, it works fine. If i unplug it while the game is up and plug it in again it stops working.
When everything is working properly, under gamepad settings>device it shows "wireless controller". When i unplug my controller and plug it back in again, the device automatically changes to "6 axis 14 button device with hat switch" and the controller remains unresponsive in ff14 until i change it back to "wireless controller".
I don't use any sort of software (like better DS4) and have been using ps4 controller with no issues since early 2.0 days with the workaround in the linked reddit post:

Maybe a similar issue is happening with your 360 controller.
