I love how people think PVP will be more unpredictable than most monster encounters, for the most part people get so cookie cutter with PVP builds you might as well be a mind reader.
You know exactly how the battle will play out.

Good point. This is part of why I don't like PvP.![]()
But RDM wasn't better than all...you forget about BLU!
Uh actually WHM/NIN was the most powerful combination as the ballista tournament taught us if we're going by XI standards. Though Manawall BLMs might exceed that now, or BLU/NINs with clever enough spell layouts.
Then again, you could have an aegis/burtgang pld who takes 10% damage from everything considering the way it works now. Or just almace/aegis and -90% MDT tearing the casters apart.
Blade and Soul has it so that you can wear a specific item that flags you for PvP.
Only those who are flagged for PvP can attack you, and you can only return the favour to those also flagged for PvP. It's a good system, because it keeps people safe that don't want to get attacked, but lets people who want more freedom to have it.
Well for starters we don't even know when we are getting Red Mage. Second, I doubt it will ever be that imbalanced, considering Yoshi-P said in one of the more recent interviews they were already working on PvP numbers. Also, even if it was imbalanced, it would really only show in the coloseum. With frontlines team vs team PvP, not so much. There were plenty of lessons for them to learn from FFXI.
On the topic of getting spammed to duel, every MMO I have played with dueling had an option to ignore duel requests.
If history is any indication, some among the hardcore PvP camp will be demanding better rewards for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:My personal stance: I'm not a fan of PvP..though on other games i indulged if i was feeling like it. at least they are giving you the choice, unlike different MMO's (Aion i'm looking at you). I just hope they don't make the mistake of putting one type of player on a pedestal, while the other gets the s**t end of the stick. PvP or non-PvP, no one should have to lose out on content i guess.
But speaking on the side of what i know will be said: If i don't PvP all day and a guy just walks out of an arena with gear or rewards just as good as mine when i took however long to get face-rolled by Ifrit and orges and the like..on top of leve or xp grinding..i'd be pissed.
- They deem themselves superior players just for preferring PvP and, thus, deserve superior rewards by default
- They will argue that PvE'ers or "carebears", as I'm sure all non-PvP'ers will be referred to once word gets around, don't deserve good rewards because PvE isn't as challenging as PvP.
- They'll insist that "PvP is what MMORPGs are all about and so that's where the best rewards should be"...
I know there's more, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head.
I enjoy PvP myself and have played a number of strictly PvP MMOs. However, thank goodness it's going to be sectioned off into its own areas in this game. FFXIV is a PvE MMO first with PvP as an option... that's all it should be.
Of course, that's something else some among the "hardcore PvP" crowd will certainly be complaining about. It's just not "real PvP" unless it's wide-open and they can attack anyone, anywhere at any time. Then, they can go into the newbie areas to gank and harass all the low level players while they're questing, take all their stuff and then stand over them gloating at how uber they are for killing the equivalent of a level 3 mob when they're level 30.
Killing players far weaker than themselves makes those people hardcore after all.
Yes, that last statement was entirely sarcastic.
WoW still didn't do this first.
Lineage 2 has had that kind of functionality via its Castle/Territory ownership since before WoW launched.
Anarchy Online had a similar system even longer than that, via its Tower Wars.
Ironically, Preypacer, PVErs say the same things about and do the same things to PVPers when they get the opportunity.
Leveling up through PvP? I don't even had to read any of it to see one gigantic exploit already, one that's used in many competitive games already. Boosting. Just have your friend stand there and kill them over and over again to gain levels. I mean if it's within the rules of the game fine, I can just see it getting abused just as powerleveling has been.
