You're right. It won't be abuseable, as long as enough people are doing it. Go play MapleStory. You get matched against random people, all of whom do the best they can because doing the best you can gives the greatest reward. Whatever rate of EXP is obtainable will be controlled so that it isn't either horrible or too good.

Especially if a minimum number of participants are required, this won't be a problem. IN order to potentially rig a match to get "easy" EXP, you'd have to get multiple other people willing to waste their time for your sake- which would fall under Yoshi-P's acceptable powerleveling scheme.

My biggest concern would be afk players exploiting pvp for gear purposes.
Generally, gear obtained from PvP is most effective for PvP and isn't as effective in PvE. This is the case in WoW, and most other games. Usually it will still be *useable* outside of PvP, but the stat configurations will usually be geared towards being good at PvP, not being good at PvE.

Gear from PvP is fine as long as it isn't so good that people feel like they have to do and be great at PvP in order to get the best gear. I don't have any problem with good PvP rewards as long as a reasonable amount of gameplay is required to attain them.

Even in FFXI's PvP, no EXP award would be given to players who joined the match but went AFK/did not actively participate.
