Leveling up through PvP - Thanks <3

From the translation post from Stanislaw: Yoshi-P Interview Translation Project (4Gamer, GAME Watch)

    Yoshi-P:
Yes. However, you have to reach a certain level before you can participate in PvP content, so one must familiarize themselves with basic Eorzea rules before participating in such activities. Afterwards, we would like to make it so players will be free to level up though PvP alone.
Additionally, we would also like to implement features where even if one were a player who doesn't participate in PvP, they can support other PvP players who share the same allegiance. For example, content that's only accessible by the forces that had won.
Thank you for giving us another way to level up, PvP! To me, PvP is something that is always fresh. With monsters and bosses, you know what they do, they do the same things over and over, you know their abilities, you know when they use them. With PvP, you never really know what your opponent can pull out of their sleeve!

I have friends that simply would not touch this game as it had no PvP content, I know a few of them are pretty excited for the 2.0 reboot now, though!

I cannot express how happy I was to see this in the translation, but thank you so much for taking different types of gamers into consideration when planning out version 2.0. <3

That's a better incentive than anything. MapleStory added PvP to the game recently, but if it didn't award a decent amount of EXP, I doubt if anyone would have made use of it. There are some good items to get from it, though people in that game are among the laziest I've ever seen

I don't want to hear anyone complaining about Pvp when it's in a closed environment and it won't hurt anyone that's not participating.

I'm not a PvPer but it is nice to see that they are going to add this option for people that truly enjoy PvP over PvE content.

My personal stance: I'm not a fan of PvP..though on other games i indulged if i was feeling like it. at least they are giving you the choice, unlike different MMO's (Aion i'm looking at you). I just hope they don't make the mistake of putting one type of player on a pedestal, while the other gets the s**t end of the stick. PvP or non-PvP, no one should have to lose out on content i guess.

But speaking on the side of what i know will be said: If i don't PvP all day and a guy just walks out of an arena with gear or rewards just as good as mine when i took however long to get face-rolled by Ifrit and orges and the like..on top of leve or xp grinding..i'd be pissed.

Some of my thoughts: The best gear for PvP was not the best gear for raiding, due to resilience. So I don't really understand what you are talking about there. Also, on the topics of some of the rewards for PvPing in WoW, take the exclusive mounts for example, they were only rewarded to the top, what, 5% of all PvPers? That seems a little more difficult than Ifrit, just saying...

okay...nowhere in that entire thing did i mention WoW...there are alot of other games that existed in the intergalctic space time continuum before WoW was an itch in blizzard's pants. My point, or my personal stance, which i mentioned first...and you seemed to MISS, was that weather or not you PvP, if you choose to engage in the content, you should not..repeat NOT be crippled by the fact that you are in PvP gear...which yes, among other games, WoW does.

Secondly, if you don't know the Ifrit fight and get slapped in the face with 9,999 damage, that seems a slight bit more "omgwtfbbq" than some hunter on WoW hitting me with a frost trap in PvP while his rouge buddy facerolls his keyboard to stunlock me.

And the second part of my post wasn't even me speaking for me, it was more like "I know someones going to imply or say this..so i may as well be the first." ...personally i don't care weather you sit in a PvP arena or in front of the entrance to Darkhold, my point was, you nor the other guy, should miss out.

And as far as them rewarding you with a mount, grats, you got a mount that in just 3 short weeks they will just sell on the blizzard site for 4.99...GG!
I was merely using an example I figured you would be familiar with, which, judging by your post, you are indeed very familiar with. While I agree that I would not like to see gear that has stats such as resilience, I do not agree that those who chose to PvP should not be rewarded with gear that is at least competitive. As Wolfie pointed out, who are you to say they aren't putting in just as much effort as you are?

Also I would like to point out that this thread was on the topic of leveling up in PvP, and not the rewards, however I regret to inform you, they have stated that there will indeed be rewards to those who decide they want to PvP. I think that is cool, though.

The top 0.5% of all active arena teams.

If history is any indication, some among the hardcore PvP camp will be demanding better rewards for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to:
    - They deem themselves superior players just for preferring PvP and, thus, deserve superior rewards by default
    - They will argue that PvE'ers or "carebears", as I'm sure all non-PvP'ers will be referred to once word gets around, don't deserve good rewards because PvE isn't as challenging as PvP.
    - They'll insist that "PvP is what MMORPGs are all about and so that's where the best rewards should be"...

I know there's more, but that's what I can remember off the top of my head.

I enjoy PvP myself and have played a number of strictly PvP MMOs. However, thank goodness it's going to be sectioned off into its own areas in this game. FFXIV is a PvE MMO first with PvP as an option... that's all it should be.

Of course, that's something else some among the "hardcore PvP" crowd will certainly be complaining about. It's just not "real PvP" unless it's wide-open and they can attack anyone, anywhere at any time. Then, they can go into the newbie areas to gank and harass all the low level players while they're questing, take all their stuff and then stand over them gloating at how uber they are for killing the equivalent of a level 3 mob when they're level 30.

Killing players far weaker than themselves makes those people hardcore after all.

Yes, that last statement was entirely sarcastic.
