Nigh useless ability + goofball animation = wasted developer coding time.
Cover algebra in a nutshell... (maybe pre-algebra.)
Maybe if the cover range was extended, or less fragile, maybe it'd be more useful than what even the animation is, but... meh...
How old a FF player am I? I had FF I from day one on the original Nintendo. =^^=

Upon further review with a team ofgirls who told me to go awayscientists I have concluded that you guys are right and it is indeed a goofy "banging sword on shield" animation. I have a feeling this animation was intended for a different ability (possibly war drum) that was cut during development, since the whole concept behind cover is stepping between an attacker and their victim rather than provoking them with some loud clanging sounds. Solkzagyl uses a proper Cover during the job quest where assassins try to gank Jenlyns. This animation is wack.

In FFXI, for a successful Cover, your targeted player needs to be behind you for the duration. I think that mechanic should have remained. It was extra funny when I Tarutaru (Lala) PLD used Cover on a Galka (Rog) WHM. Was epic.

You are a sneaky one Mr. Moderator but you can't fool me.
I mean you probably can just not this time.
Everytime I cover someone, I feel pretty sorry that it looks like I have a chain pulling the target player..... ^^;
