    Questions about RP servers

Hello, I'm here to ask a few questions about RP servers, the only one I know being Balmung. I've heard many good and fun things about Balmung but I'm not really sure what an RP server entails, what kind of Rp's are held, etc etc. So if anyone can give me any useful information while I'm figuring out if I wanna transfer or not it would be helpful! So the basic questions would be:

    1. What distinguishes Balmung and other servers as Rp servers?
    2. Is the Rp community large? Hard to get into?
    3. Any other notable servers besides Balmung?

Anything else you feel I should know would be appreciated as well!

I have an alt in Balmung and I can tell you that's it's VERY large and open RP is common throughout there are also occasional server events that RPers like to plan and it's available for everyone if interested: Masquerade Balls, Parades, Fight Tournaments, etc.

The 2nd in terms of RP population is Gilgamesh. It used to be more popular, but it's dwindled down and I think many RPers went to Balmung. There's RP, but it's more private and limited to FCs, LSs and rooms. You pretty much have to work to find RPers.

Other servers ... I don't know, but when it comes to RP servers it's 1st: Balmung and 2nd Gilgamesh

    1. What distinguishes Balmung and other servers as Rp servers? Players arbitrarily pointed to that one and "claimed" it as an rp server
    2. Is the Rp community large? Hard to get into? It's fairly large, not sure how hard/easy it is to get into though, I never rp'd there personally when I was on Balmung
    3. Any other notable servers besides Balmung? I think it's..... Gilgamesh? That's an "rp server" too iirc.

Thing about Balmung though, the community is fairly decent, but as it's on lockout ALWAYS, it's a bit stagnant, a new player can't just join up and go there, so everyone has their own little cliques that they stick to and not much interaction, in my experience goes on beyond that unless absolutely necessary. Stagnant community is one of the main reasons I decided to jump ship tbh.

I've honestly never noticed what you're talking about. I end up talking with strangers all the time. Seeing RP everywhere really makes the world feel more alive too.

It really does, even if you don't participate in it yourself. Every time I need to make a visit to one of the Adventure Guilds, I'm entertained by the emotes. Most noticeably is the one in Uldah, but I've seen activity in Limsa Lominsa as well.

Simply put, it is a community-chosen, Unofficial RP server. This means that SE does not necessarily endorse the RP'ers, but rather that hte RP community chose to set up there. It should also be noted that there are two RP servers:

Balmung - Unofficial RP Legacy Server
Gilgamesh - Unofficial RP Non-Legacy Server

    2. Is the Rp community large? Hard to get into?
Nope! Just go to the RPC and most people will welcome you with open arms.

You can also walk up to people in tavern-like places, or people with RP-homes and you'll often meet people IC. A lot of people encourage tells before starting to RP, don't assume everyone RP's please.

I remember Gilgamesh was a lot more clique-based RP, sadly. So I can't speak for them.

With characters both on Gilgamesh and Balmung for RP, it boils down to what your comfortable with.

As people have said, on Balmung RP is EVERYWHERE. You can literally go to some of the Adventurers guilds (most popular is the Quicksand in Ul'Dah) and just randomly talk up people in character. If you're comfortable with that, that is. You can also get some people that are totally troll RPers, so I've found as a serious RPer that has trouble with random encounters, it's really daunting and hard to get involved, and it's not even easy getting into an LS or FC dedicated to RP that doesn't start up and fizzle away (I've had 2 FCs I've joined since I got on right before heavensward just die.) If you like the large random and just get in thing, this place is AWESOME.

On Gilgamesh... well everything is focused through the FC and LS communities. There are several dedicated to RP and if you know where to look, you can find a lot going on. That said, I find that they have a lot of cliques and while it's easier to jump in as all RP ends up as a mini-event, it's hard to get anything really character focused going because people like their big events like bar nights and parties and The Clinic (which is an IC place for people to go and get injuries treated). I'm still working on getting a real foothold, but because the community is more centralized, it's at least easier to get a conversation on the topic started, even if I'm not getting results.

There are also small communities on other servers. The one on Lamia is FC based and really laid back and casual, so if you want something smaller with a feel of casual interactions and conversation it's a good spot. There's also one on Brynhildr (it's been a while since I've been there so I don't know it's current status) but they love their great big story arcs and it's really interesting. I ended up not being able to follow all the huge things they kept pulling though and that was one of the reasons I left. There was once a community on Siren, but I think that may have up and left for Balmung.

The Quicksand in Ul'dah can get very interesting on Balmung.

I wish they'd just unlock Balmung.
