    Newspaper Eorzea

While this is a suggestion for the actual game rather than the website or Forums, I didn't know where else to pitch this.

I had the idea of including a newspaper in-game for players to read to keep up to date with general news and to also add to game immersion. Imagine reading about recent Mog letter quests, Odin sightings, Kobold bomb incidents in Outer La Noscea and Grand Company politics among other things while waiting for the Duty Finder?

Maybe have the newspaper updated weekly or monthly as I imagine it would be another time consuming task on top of the already no doubt overloaded developers, but it was just a thought. It would also help to inform players about upcoming maintenance or server issues as soon as possible, without players only being notified once they reach the log in screen.

    Thoughts on this?

FFXI originally had something similar called the Vana'diel Tribune - it was a client-based newspaper that was frequently (like, once a month) updated with the 'latest news' lore wise and also covered gameplay topics such as showing off player housing and the like. It was eventually shut down when the main FFXI website was restructured (at the same time the FFXI forums launched), and from then on all news was listed on the site instead of the client.

FFXIV also technically has something similar, in the form of the three newspapers The Harbour Herald, The Mythril Eye and The Raven, which are in-universe newspapers based in Limsa Lominsa, Ul'dah and Gridania respectively, which originally were used to list lore connected to the Seventh Umbral Era storyline in 1.0, but are now mostly used for special events. In any event, the articles are listed on the Lodestone fairly frequently.

Sadly, as cool as it would be to have an actual readable newspaper in game instead of out-of-universe on the Lodestone, all that text that would have to be added would just be far too time consuming for the writing and translation teams, who are already snowed under with the sheer volume of text to implement and translate in the game as it is.

Thanks for the information, I wasn't aware something similar had existed in the past or indeed still does on the Lodestone. Think I'll go check it out.

Sadly the 1.x newspaper articles got deleted with the 1.0 Lodestone.

But I wish the GMs would do this ingame again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C3Jn5M0kTo

    edit:
    Gamerescape still have them: http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Newspapers

I would prefer an official Lore Library website. The forum section is nice but it's confusing with all those crazy theories ppl come up with. It's nice to speculate but I would prefer the official Lore.

If it makes the world seem more alive then I'm all for it. Immersion is always welcomed in an MMO.
