All my healer friends feel like groups believe they're dragging DPS numbers down by not being able to solo heal, and that the party only brings two healers because us scrubs can't handle soloing the whole fight. My tank friends also feel that way, as if they weren't an asset.
It amazes me how much people can have such different experiences playing this game. In my static, we have never blamed healers for lack of dps. They do a pretty good job working together, and occasionally we might ask if there is anything we can do to help them do more dps, but we've never blamed them for anything dps related. We use 2 healers unless our WHM is confident he can solo heal, then we let him try because it's fun. WEe give him a few tries to get the hang of it and if it goes well we keep at it, and if not we put the other healer back in. No biggy either way. I join A1/A2 and Thordan parties on my healers all of the time, I'm a SMN main so that's the only way I get to heal which I really enjoy in this game. Parties always have 2 healer slots listed, not 1. Additionally, I have never heard anyone blame me or the other healer for low dps...ever. I can't figure out if I am the one playing in the twilight zone, or other posters. But it's baffling how I could literally have never witnessed something even while joining lots of pf groups, while other people define what I've never seen as common to the player base. I truly don't understand.

With respect to less fun in 3.0 raiding in general, I don't think that's specific to healing. Everyone seems to feels that way - the encounters are less entertaining (With A2 and A4 being the no fun standouts) with a boring story to boot.

I started this game in the beta phases on PS3 as CNJ. By October, I became a BRD. I went back to WHM for Raiding, which was ok. However, back then, there was little talk about me needing to do some extra damage. I ended up going back to BRD because I couldn't dps well as WHM. I dropped BRD for ROG when ROG released. I meddle with WHM every now and then, but she's only for simple stuff like dungeons or Primals.

I MAY use her in Coil, but not for any Alexander content as I lack the secondary skills (being a dps) that players require of WHM, so I just go as NIN.

Yup, it's not everyone who experiences this kind of thing. I got blamed for that shit, but I'm the raid leader in my current group and I banished parsers. The mindset is: worry about DPS when mechanics have been learned to perfection. I also don't let my co-healer DPS until it's needed. So I'm enforcing the 2.X mindset that everyone should worry about mechanics and about their job before they start this whole BUT DA DEEPS!!1!!1!1 thing.

Well...now you're just being stupid and letting your personal opinion of how healing should work get in the way of a useful tool, common sense and good gameplay.

It's not a personal opinion when the group used to wipe constantly in Thordan EX because half the group didn't turn for gaze because they wanted to see their numbers go up in the parsers. It's also not stupid when my co-healer killed his fairy and missed his timing to shield the party to see his numbers go up, wiping the party in the process for three pulls in a row. Not stupid when he tunnels vision and kills the DRG with Protean Wave to get another Broil off. Also, not stupid when the co-healer started dotting both hands in the split and we wiped at the hand DPS check because he let his DoTs tick in the wrong hand to see his DEEPS go up.

I could go on, but the point is clear: no DPS numbers will save a group that fucks up mechanics to see numbers go up. Worrying about numbers before enrage hinders progression. It's like wiping your ass before going to the bathroom.

And yes, I know he's dumb. I know he's not playing right, but there's no one else to replace him, so I had to take the best co-healer I could find. If I let him DPS as he wills, he tunnels vision, so he's not DPSing until I know for sure it's safe, and that time will come when mechanics are being handled properly.

Dude, I love you for this. I've encountered MANY people who worried about DPS damage, but the group is screwing up badly in mechanics. I mean, sure, you were top DPS on Faust, but jeez, why can't you NOT put Resin under the laser?

I've been a whm through all the raid tiers since the start of the game and Alex has completely turned me off the role. I decided to join a casual static and become a smn. I'm having way more fun now. Even considering being a healer again in Alex makes me feel a little sick tbh. It's been dreadful. Never have I felt this way in any other content as a whm

I hope se reworks how they balance raids. If a raid can be solo healed or a healer can dps large amounts of time without people dying or going oom then something is wrong.
