Less enjoyment in 3.0 raidingas healer (compared to 2.0)

    Greetings,

Since ffxi and 1.0 I have always been healing in mmo's, finding great fun in keeping my team alive, though this fun has been decreasing when Heavensward hit. All new content seems to have no special mechanics for healers like turn 10 or 12 had. there is not a lot of yay feelings anymore when you gotten your team through a rough situation. It all feels like healing just lost spirit and I wonder if thats just me or something you all are feeling.

It's similar to BCOB; less about mechanics, more about proper planning. I personally don't hate it. But it is mind numbingly simple compared to SCOB or FCOB

I actually kind of liked it.

Even A1S was a challenge to heal, not to play team jumprope as much. There was a lot of damage and without very precise timing and GCD management, you would lose people. MP management too, of course.

A3S was the raid heal version of this and reminded tanks that they can't DPS combo all the time.

Now that i210 is commonplace it's much easier, of course. But I really liked the challenge this cycle. Really got to pull all our healer tools to use (vs the sleepiness of dungeons...)

I didnt find it as fun as any of First Second or Final coil. So have taken a break and will see what Midas is like. There is nothing really exciting in Alexander Savage for a healer other than see how much dps you can fit between healing.

Healing is fun in the current raid tier, insofar as healers have to pretty much do any number of important mechanics. A1S eases you in with double tankbusters and preys, A2S uh... lets... you... AoE, I guess? And then you hit A3S where you get to constantly carry the raid. Mitigation every half a minute, digititus swaps that you're always a part of, tank nukes everywhere and a forced segment that you might be single-healing. It's fun! And then there's A4S where you get to eat yellow candy orbs that explode in your face and then learn how to heal with your mana bar reduced to zero, and maybe even get to pop your healer LB3. That's... well, a new experience, at least.

I feel sorry for some of the DPS though. I mean A4S has no positionals on those legs, so our poor MNK literally just stands in place and punches, only moving if mechanics dictates while the rest of us all have things to do. He is SO BORED in there on bad nights, I feel sorry for him.

Alex Savage keeps healers more busy than Final Coil did, not sure what you're getting at.

A1S - Easing healers into overall raid damage for subsequent runs, double-prey + double-buster
A2S - DPS contribution + Preys on tanks + No breaks in the fight requiring good use of MP management skills + no aoe regens for hate concerns
A3S - Digititis trading, Heavying Adds, contributing a lot of DPS to meet enrage check, forced solo-healing section with other healer gaol'd, prepping tanks for tethers
A4S - Eating Discoids, handling Nisi/and-or LB3 managing, heavy DPSing amongst the raid damage chaos, helping with lasers, dealing with low mp for a good chunk of fight if you let dolls blow up

I am also not sure what you are getting at, all of these and mechanics have been seen in various iterations in all of the previous raid cycles. During progression, these were also fairly unforgiving to deal with as well, as anything is when you are at a lower ilvl than the fight is designed for. These things are not just exclusive to Alexander Gordian: Savage.

Also, i learned a hell of a lot more about healing from Savage Second Coil than Alexander Gordian: Savage.

A1 - we have seen these style of multiple mechanics before, final phase of T10, T8 when allagan fields start appearing and towers have to be done. Earthshakers>Megaflare>Flarebreath. See also Savage t6 where phase pushing needed a level of SCH dps and helaing that wasnt really required before in other raids. Also Savage T6 lasers + chains were far harder to deal with than double prey + tank busters.

A2 - no difference with T4 really in its style. Multiple waves of mobs. Also not really needing aoe regens in this fight anyway. Prey really just is a marked mild psudo-tankbuster.

A3 - a lot like T12, just far more unforgiving. Flames of the firebrand, Bennu placement, prepping tank for tank busters, tank swaps, adds that have to be dealt with in specific manners. Savage T8 and T9 arguably have mechanics that are very similar, with rng towers in T8 requiring huge amounts of group co-ordination that A3S requires. When you have to deal with RNG placement of towers + allagan field + boss cleave, then you start to have fun. T9 requires a huge amount of group co-ordination after phase 1.

A4 - not done a4s yet, but well it does seem to be one of the harder fights for healers, but this seems to be more about having to get healers to do a lot more than they should due to dps checks being made too tight.

Although it is fair to create content that is new to the game as a whole, SE is not at fault in this instance for creating content that introduces new players to raid mechanics. To veteran players, some things that happen in Alexander may feel like much the same as before, but to those that joined with HW or to players that simply did not raid until now Alexander's 1st to 4th floor is a decent beginning (albeit with a wonky difficulty curve).

Plus, there's Thordan EX, which puts quite some stress on the healers the further the fight drags on, has a few very healer-centric mechanics (such as the Holy Shield Bash/Spear of Fury combo), and is very beautiful and rewarding to optimize as a healer.

My problem is with the mindset. Most groups are acting as if having healers in the party is a liability, not an asset. The strain in DPS, people blaming healers for not meeting DPS checks and so on. The fights themselves are not the actual problem, but the way the community reacted to the fights and to the strategy the pro-groups use. All my healer friends feel like groups believe they're dragging DPS numbers down by not being able to solo heal, and that the party only brings two healers because us scrubs can't handle soloing the whole fight. My tank friends also feel that way, as if they weren't an asset.
