    Buffing VIT Nerfing STR - Some simple math...

    Full 210 DRK Xaela build.

    The harder they nerf STR/buff VIT, the higher our AP will stay. Just food for thought for all those people hoping it'll be 50/50 so they can keep their slaying accessories. This also proves that even at the worst possible conversion rate our AP will only be about 100 points below a full STR tank now and roughly 200 points above a current full VIT build.

    (FYI, full STR tank here, completely unbothered by this IMO very much needed change...)

    50/50 VIT:STR = AP

    35 VIT 100% Fending - (1108VIT*0.5) + (775STR*0.5) = 941.5AP

    554 + 387.5

    35 STR 100% Slaying - (828VIT*0.5) + (1045STR*0.5) = 936.5AP

    414 + 522.5

    60/40 VIT:STR = AP

    35 VIT 100% Fending - (1108VIT*0.6) + (775STR*0.4) = 974.8AP

    664.8 + 310

    35 STR 100% Slaying - (828VIT*0.6) + (1045STR*0.4) = 914.8AP

    496.8 + 418

    70/30 VIT:STR = AP

    35 VIT 100% Fending - (1108VIT*0.7) + (775STR*0.3) = 1008.1AP

    775.6 + 232.5

    35 STR 100% Slaying - (828VIT*0.7) + (1045STR*0.3) = 893.1AP

    579.6 + 313.5

    Is there any reason that the ratios for VIT and STR have to add up to 1? Couldn't they do something like VIT*0.7 and STR*0.1 if they wanted to?

    I guess they could. Those are the most common ratios I've been seeing. And i didn't want to incur the wrath of my fellow STR tanks by implying that our attack power might end up being less than 100% of a given value

    I'm waiting until we have actual numbers to make any judgement, tbh. :x

    I'm fine with whatever though, at least we won't be competing for Slaying accessories while Fending hits the floor.

    Oh, for sure, and this is total theorycraft. I thought I'd attempt to math out some of the most common predictions to mitigate some of the doom'n'gloom, though.

    I feel like this whole thing is going to be repeated to a somewhat less extent with healers. Just like tanks, many healers overmelded for accuracy, losing out on potentialit healing bonuses from determination/other secondary stats. In 3.2 you'll have healers (like myself) that will focus on gaining accuracy, over larger healing numbers. It's not as night and day of an impact as str vs vit, but it's the same gearing mindset, dps> "role"

    If your 50/60/70% VIT theory came to be true, then tank accessories would be complete junk compared to the left side gear.

    210 melee boots - 62 STR
    210 melee accessory - 47 STR, ~75% of head/hands/boots

    210 tank boots - 62 STR/66 VIT
    210 tank accessory - 49 VIT, that's barely 50% of head/hands/boots at 70%VIT/30%STR

    Currently tank accessories are 0% compared to left side gear. I'm confused as to the point being made here. O.o

    sure it's possible, the reason why it is not is because the previous base calculation assumed STR at 1 (seen in dervy's stat weights)

    In your example, this would represent a reduction in tank damage, by 20 %. SE made no statement of a general reduction in tank DPS, just that you would do more damage in VIT than in STR gear.

    @Syz something more to factor (piggybacking your example)

    50/50 VIT:STR = AP
    35 VIT pentameld (31/29 vit/str) = (1018 vit*0.5) + ( 920 str*0.5) = 969 AP
    ~~~~~~~~
    60/40 VIT:STR = AP
    35 VIT pentameld (31/29 vit/str) = (1018 vit*0.6) + (920 str * 0.4) = 978.8 AP
    ~~~~~~~~
    70/30 VIT:STR = AP
    35 VIT pentameld (31/29 vit/str) =(1018 vit*0.7) + (920 str*0.3) = 988.6 AP
    (being lazy and not doing the STR side)

    Based on SE’s disdain for pentamelds, I don’t know that I like these formula’s. I’ve been wrong before, just ask my wife……

    The Other, other thing to look at, even at the highest AP in your calculations (1008.1) would actually mean an attack power nerf (max str on xaela – DRK - is 1045). SE didn’t mention that they were reducing tank damage in general (doesn’t mean it won’t happen).
