Did I miss something? Language-specific servers? The newest outline says World Servers, with matching across all worlds..?
Hi Neptune,
Yah there's cross-world matching service for content but it's from Yoshida-san here:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...289#post400289Setting up dedicated language-specific servers (to have language specific/global parallel worlds)
Thanks.
The solution is quite simple; Don't bind characters to a "world" but give us the possibility to choose which server to log in to after selecting a character. That way if someone feels like playing on a language-specific server can do that and change back to a global server/another language specific server at will.

If no character is bound to a server then there is no lowest/highest priced server. It would be like having one global server with channels to switch between. They could even go as far as to move market wards/AH to a separate server so that there are no server-specific wards.
I myself am for global servers as they are now though.

I met some great people in FFXI because the servers were forced global, taking that away from FFXIV is a huge disappointment because it won't be the same experience if a choice is involved. I never understood the point of a segregated server anyway, you can still choose to seclude yourself on a global server.
I think it's sad if most servers end up being region favored. Looking back on the years I spent in FFXI I was in multiple socials, one end-game NA ls, one end-game EU ls and one Dynamis/Salvage JP ls. I did enjoy the variety and the fifferent experiences that I got from all these. I also had multiple friends from all regions whom I helped and got help from.
The idea that Japanese players won't play with any other players from around the world is false, if you take some time to be humble and make use of the auto-translate function then there's usually no problem. However for very calculated and specific team-based events such as for example end game events I can see a problem, but that's not to say that there's any problem in co-existing.
At the moment I do random things like Behest and Xp-parties, most of these times I have ended up playing with japanese simply because they where available and eager to do those. If you take them away from my server then my active hours are going to be pretty darn empty, at the same time if I join a Japanese server then I end up being at a disadvantage when it comes to socialization and making friends in general.
Is it really so bad to co-exist the way we do now? Like this we can have a high activity all day and cross cultural exposure.
Please keep servers global. if you need excuses as to why you should do just that. then here are a few.
1) lower server maintenance costs, More cash for better upgrade solutions for current server platforms.
2) not getting the feeling of playing alone, sometimes i must play at off hours. while i cant read it the player to player conversations lets me know I'm not alone out there.
3) Racism is the byproduct of both ignorance and segregation. if we lived in such away today, my world would begin in California and end in Virgina, English would be the only language in existence, we would all drive the same vehicles, we would all eat the same food, all watch the same boring American films, all pray to the same god, all the building would be built the same. What a dull and boring way to live, wouldn't you agree?
4) Square Enix has set the stage for global servers, Something many wish they could but in the end all fall short. Are you really willing to abandon the Future of online gaming where the entire world can connect and play as a collective for something so Short sighted as Regional Servers?
Its your ballgame now, the Audience of the World Awaits Eagerly. whether or not you hit a homerun, or Strikeout. only time will tell.
for me being half I'm 1/2 on this decision but it's optional anyways so don't really matter.
If you want to play within your own community go ahead, as for me I'd rather play with both and I have an advantage by being able to speak both so I'm cheating lol.
I for one know both good and the bad side of both Japanese and Americans living in both culture through out my childhood.
I look American so I got bashed in Japan being called Gaijin and people doing some stupid shit to me, throwing dirt while walking back from school, breaking my bicycle's chains so I can't ride home, ripping my back pack...
I only spoke 30% or less English when parents moved to Hawaii so I was called a Jap at same time I thought American community was like Japan where I can lend my video games or anime videos or Gundam stuff I had later to find out everything never came back. Was stolenNice to find out one of them even broke into my house later on and steal 300+ of my Famicon, PC Engine, Sega, games and although me and my father found the stolen games we were never able to get them back since the police said we didn't have any receipt proof... although all the games I owned had my family name marked on it with a permanent marker.
Now aside from all that s*** I grew up, got familar with the American culture and started making friends again and all that so it was cool, now happily married and with 2 kids which are 3/4 Japanese 1/4 American. Whenever I visit Japan I act as a gaijin just to see what the JP people would say when they see me. If they say some crap about me they got a surprise waitingAnyways back to topic....
I know how FFXI was before NA release and after. I tried to run a linkshell prior to NA release since there were NA players trying to play FFXI on JP client and having hard time reading Japanese and that turned out into a linkshell where we tried to get both JP and NA players and me and my wife and few others to help communicate between players to have fun together (was really nice linkshell)
JP's problem
- they want to play but have hard time communicating and can't use the auto-translator since it's really hard to use
- they can't understand how some NA players join party kill 5 mobs and just suddenly leaves party, or once they level up they just drop party. In Japanese gaming culture that's not normal so after a while JP players started staying away from NA for that reason. Now I mentioned this before on FFXI unofficial forums and was told mind my own business from the NA player and was told they have a life so they have to leave whenever they have to go... sure I can take that if you have emergency you gotta go. But If you're playing normally, hey at least you can say I gotta go in ___ minutes (JP side normally gives like 10-15 minimum)
NA's problem
- even if they wanted to join party with JP players JP guys says JP ONRY (It does happen and started getting worse because of those small groups of NA players that don't have any manners.)
- communication problem just like JP but imo NA side's auto-translator works better?? not sure on this one seems NA players use the auto translate more imo.
- Age, I believe NA players player range is a lot younger than Japanese players, I know there are players as young as 8-12 year old playing FFXI (don't say it's not true, we saw you at Fan Fest with your whole family lol) while on JP side it's more of high school / college students and up. Because of this I also think it has some issues where some 'kids' are immature.
Both JP and NA players have a good side and bad side. It's just those stupid players on both sides that loves to ruin it for the rest of the community...
I say just let them play however they want to play; if that makes them happy playing in their own community go ahead. I'd rather play globally with players from every region/country. You learn more stuff that way![]()
Yes, i agree both the JP Player base and the NA Player Base have "problems", but how are we to work out these problems if Square Enix is so willing to Cave-in. i just feel the bridge that was built between the shores of Japan, America and Europe in XI are about to get Demolished, and no one in a position to change it is giving it a second thought.
