Cant participate in a hunt from the board

I can’t participate in a hunt, when I try to select one from the hunt board in my faction I get a message saying "you are not authorized to participate in the hunt". Why is this?

I’m a second serpent lieutenant so it shouldn’t be because of my rank.

You have to complete a quest to unlock B ranks. I can't look it up at the moment but a quick Google search should give you the name and npc

Have you actually unlocked them? They require a very quick and easy quest from your Grand Company HQ. The Heavensward (Clan Centurio) Hunts however are separate and require a different set of quests to be done first before you can undertake them, gained from Aytienne at Ishgard's Foundation, with each rank requiring a separate quest.

If you already have unlocked Hunts however, I have no idea what the cause could be I'm afraid.

I'm bumping this because I'm in this exact state! I've done this on several characters over the years without a problem, including the one I'm posting this on (who's a Captain), so I'm not new to it but I cannot fathom why I can't get the quest "Let The Hunrt Begin".

I'm Second Lieutenant and have completed the GC Hunt Log. I select a Bill but get "You are not authorised..." when I try to take it.

I'm stood next to the Hunt Billmaster in Adder's Next and he won't offer me "Let The Hunt Begin".

I can find no more information about the requirements to get this quest.

Anyone?

So, I posted this then discovered the problem .. it's another of SE's pointless quest steps: the quest comes from the NPC Scarlet who's right outside the Nest, you have to talk to him in order for the Huntmaster to talk to you.

What a totally unecessary step.

"Why didn't you see the quest marker over Scarlet?" you may ask. Simple, Scarlet ALWAYS has a quest marker, it's been there since I hit level 30 because I don't PVP so I never take that quest from him! I have many NPPC withs persistent markers offering quests I never want, and I have no way to tell them to stop offering me them: the quest offer dialog needs a "I don't ever want it" option!

The requirements are that you need to be level 50, Second Lietenant and a member of that Grand Company. The character you are posting with meets these requirements, but based on what you said you are probably referring to an alt?

Oh my god. Just had the same problem today and started scrolling web for answers. Your tale is exactly the same thing that happened to me. Scarlet has several quests on him and I never thought it could've been him I should talk to. Thank you!

Really though, folks should just grab the PvP quest and do it even if you're never going to PvP.

Rongway isnt wrong. All PvP is self-contained, so doing the unlock quest for it is completely without risk. Duels can only happen in a specific section of the PvP hub, and must be agreed to. All 3 PvP modes currently in the game(Frontline, CC, Rival Wings) need to be qued for, there is no open world PvP. The rewards are an additional source of decent exp along with cosmetic items(glams, mounts, minis, etc), so unless you find a specific reward you like there would never be any pressure to participate either.
