To side quest or not to side quest.

    Hello,

I seem to be over leveling the main story a bit, I'm now doing level 17 story quests at lv22. I'm in a area with level 17 and 18 side quests.

What's the normal coarse of action in this game? Should I skip the side quests and stick with the story? Do I only use side quests to top up my levels so I don't fall behind the story level requirements? or should I do everything in site?

Running Duties, Guildleves, Heists etc.. is keeping me ahead of the curve.

    Enjoying the game so far

Thanks for your help in advance.

It's better to do just the main quests. The main quest will guide you through important side quets like the mount one or the quest ''my feisty little chocobo'' to adquire chocobo as a companion. Try to get a good FC because the high lv community of this game it's worse than the wow one.
Guildheists gives a good exp too. Some dungeons unlock just with the main quests too.

It's pretty common to end up overleveled in the early part of the game. As you continue further, it takes more XP to level, but the rate of new quests doesn't increase by nearly as much, so you'll be more likely to just be keeping up with the story levels, and only near the end as you approach endgame do you start having to work at leveling in order to keep up with the story quests.

When to do the sidequests comes down to personal preference.

Some people like running all the sidequests as they get to them (even if that means being over-leveled). This helps ensure they don't accidentally miss unlocking some feature. It can also help provide a bit more flavor to the story of the game. As the main storyline moves through various areas and levels, sidequests in the same area and level range can often supplement the story with a little extra background on what's going on in the area and why your actions in that part of the main story are important to it.

Other people prefer leaving sidequests to do later, while leveling up additional classes. This gives you more chances to do them on-level, when their XP will be more helpful. And it provides an additional activity while leveling alt classes. (With unlimited ability to repeat dungeons, leves, FATEs, etc, there are plenty of XP sources for leveling all the classes you want, but alternating a few quests in among all that repeatable content can make the process seem less grindy.)

Oh, if you do decide to start skipping a lot of the sidequests, you'll want to be able to recognize which ones are important for unlocking features. Check out this guide for that info:

Perfect, thanks for the advice. I'll check that link out.

Zero fear there. I also play EvE online, that community at times can make any other look like cute kitties and puppies. I expect no less in most online games. I just don't contribute to the venom, even in EvE. I appreciate the warning and advice though.

My experience in this game so far have been positive community wise. One of the better ones it seems.
