And the reward for finishing the Beast Tribe quests was a scene where you stalk a male who walks around his house in only his panties.
I'm sure some people were quite appreciative of that scene and it made all the grinding worth it. Maybe.
I might point out that if the Grand Companies did treat us as employees we wouldn't get a fraction of the freedom we do get. Thing about a regular salary is all the conditions that come with it. Im just happy I can use them to get rid of useless junk and feed my coke addiction (for building Airships of course) :PIt's not so much that we're greedy, it's that we're effectively super stars. Helping the Scions amounts to charity work, you don't ask for pay when you're helping out at the homeless shelter... That is what's greedy...
Grand Companies are the real pricks in all this; We enlisted. That's a job, not a hobby. OK, they gave us a Chocobo Companion, but that's about it... The Seals they pay us in are worthless, what's more they don't even have us doing anything... That's like having Iron Man join the US military, and have him work on pest control (FATEs) while paying him in Rupees... It's nonsense... Can't wait for that Grand Company specific content they promised...
Indeed, that's an oft-forgotten point: We aren't actually part of the regular standing forces of the Grand Companies. Rather, adventurers and free companies are irregular units, and they're nominally enlisted by the Grand Companies to serve as an auxiliary or reserve force.
If I recall correctly, the city-states used to have larger standing armies, comprising not just enlisted/commissioned units, but also large numbers of mercenaries. But after the end of the Autumn War with Ala Mhigo, there was no further need for large standing armies. Many soldiers lost their jobs, and for a while, they were a nuisance until the Adventurers' Guild was set up to provide some form of employment.
I think this was explained in Ver1.0 lore. More experienced lore hounds may wish to correct or corroborate my information.
I think the duty finder can be considered echo induced PTSD and PF can be explained by a collective Echo-Ception of a group of adventurers.I wouldn't have to kill Ramuh over and over in my head like a madperson if Hydaelyn blessed my lots as strongly as she supposedly blesses my character.
If you consider you're doing a lot of that in your head, and you're using DF/PF for it, you might even consider the WoL extremely mentally unstable or terribly lonely, since you're essentially creating new partners/companions/party members out of thin air each time you start a new set of reimaginings.
I've RPed a little as being able to willingly control my Echo abilities to relive my greatest battles. But due to overuse I forget who was actually there if anyone.
That's preaty much it in a nutshell. And personally, In exchange my scripts for valuable Glacier Crystals that SE for 360 Gil a pop. (That the merchants probably sell back to the GCs for 400 Gil a piece lol)If I recall correctly, the city-states used to have larger standing armies, comprising not just enlisted/commissioned units, but also large numbers of mercenaries.
