Inventory space! Yes another thread, I'm bored

I have been meandering through the new relic quests, slowly collecting tokens and unidentified junk and have realised to my dismay that is taking up another 8 slots out of my inventory. I\\\\'m already at breaking point as I love collecting glamour and housing items and I can\\\\'t afford to pay for an additional retainer. I don\\\\'t want to rush through the relic stuff but the lack of inventory space is driving me nuts!

Well the only piece of advice I can give you, because I'm guessing you're an e-hoarder, is that you can place certain event armor including your artifact gear into the armoire at an Inn. My other statement on the matter is this: Do you really need that hat? I mean, really?

Keep rare or exclusive stuff, stick what you can into the armoire, chuck items and equipment that are easily replaceable (like stuff that you can craft yourself or buy from an NPC). Also keep in mind that even if event items can't be stored in the armoire, they can usually be repurchased from the Calamity Salvager so they're still safe to toss out. There's little reason to have inventory issues with two retainers unless you're heavy into crafting or decide that you need to keep every little piece of gear that falls into your bags.

Yes I do really (the hat goes so well with my shoes!) I am a horder but I regularly have to make choices about which bit I want to keep more. I would love to be able to store my clothes in a wardrobe and my housing bits too. Tbh what I'd really like is a way to keep a book of Glamours I've obtained, even if I have to sacrifice the item to get it in the book, then I could just use it at any time. I hope you understand what I mean, it makes sense in my head.

Space was a bit tight even when the game was new. Then every patch keeps adding more stuff. The expansion added a huge amount of more stuff. But nothing has been done to help us with space to keep it all.

We need some way to keep gear that we use for glamour. A book of unlocked glamours would help enormously. Or if not a whole new system, then maybe just expanding the Armoire to hold more than just AF and festival stuff. If it could be upgraded to hold all the various tome and dungeon drop gear sets as well, that would save a ton of space.

And houses need to include storage for extra housing items not currently being displayed. (I think calling it a basement or attic and accessing it by clicking a door in the floor of the lower level or ceiling of the upper level would make a good RP justification for the space, but when opened it would be just another inventory system similar to the retainers' inventory, and we could store or pick up stuff the same way.)

And we need a tackle box for fishermen. There are 52 kinds of fishing tackle in this game, and they can only be used by keeping them in our regular inventory space. (I'm only up to level 32 as FSH, and I've already exceeded a tab worth of inventory space and gone into a second for holding just the baits I've reached so far. By the time FSH is maxed, bait will take up half the total inventory space by itself.)

And there are a lot of miscellaneous items that clutter inventory space they shouldn't really need, currency tokens of various types that are held in inventory rather than the currency tab, and a wide assortment of quest related items that go in inventory rather than key items (like all that relic stuff the OP was talking about).


Back before Heavensward came out, Yoshida acknowledged that inventory space needed improving, but said it was going to take too long to be available for the expansion. He wasn't very specific as to what long term solution they were working on, but he said we'd get another retainer as an interim solution until the real inventory improvements were ready. Well, it's been more than six months since HW released, and we have neither the real improvements nor even the interim one.


(And yes, this is yet another thread that keeps repeating things that have been said before. But the problem is still here, so it's natural enough that discussion of it is still here as well.)

Until they figure out what they want to do to fix this, I have two pieces of advice. 1) make as much use of the Armoire as you possibly can. 2) If something you are keeping for glamour can readily be crafted without difficulty, and without expensive, rare materials, consider disposing of it, you can always make a new one later.

I guess the third piece of advice is go on the 6 month renewal and add optional retainer services, your total cost won't change much, but you gain retainer space.

And crafting items. A dedicated crafting mat storage system would be a huge help. The game has 1760 different crafting mats (going by the number of listings under "materials" in Libra Eorzea's item database), or nearly twice that many if you have both NQ and HQ. That's a huge amount if they're stored as items in our retainers' inventory. But if there was dedicated storage that just needed to remember how many NQ and how many HQ we had of each, then storing all the crafting mats in the game would only take up about 32 GB of storage space per 5 million characters.

(And if they made that storage something you unlock when you get your first crafting class to level 15 or so, they wouldn't even have to allocate that space for all characters, just the ones who get into crafting. It was just last summer they reached a cumulative total of 5M subscriptions started since launch. I suspect it'll be a while before they have 5M crafters.)

make your own fc and use the fc box as your storage, thats what I am doing since nobody else uses our fc box and I am the only crafter there.
