    Spell/skill speed.

    Would it be broken to just do away with spell/skill speed and just replace it with "speed"?

    Currently jobs are pretty much split into physical and magical with very little overlap anyway, the only real exceptions to this are pld and drk and in these two cases the lack of ability to lower the cast time/GCD on the spells is something a lot of people complain about (looking at you clemency).

    I just don't see the point in having these separate stats that could easily be made into one thing and wouldn't have much of an effect on game balance while also being a slight positive to jobs that have spells and very limited access to spell speed.

    If I had to wager a bet...i'd say the reason it's not just 'Haste' is due to how SE has coded things.

    Been asking for this since 1.x... originally for my PLD and BRD, but now just because I still have yet to see a reason not to. It seems silly that I can have a weaponskill at 2.38 GCD, but Flash remains at 2.5, or worse, that no Song cast-time reduction make Skill Speed even shittier for Bards than it otherwise would be.

    At current we have Skill Speed, Spell Speed, and Attack Speed (affects casts, weaponskills, and auto-attacks).
    They could simply make a Speed stat on gear which then affects both the Skill Speed and Spell Speed stats, such that future abilities similar to the original Fey Glow / Light would still be able to affect those stats separately. I suspect though that the reason they did not do this is because they wanted such abilities to favor Speed stacking less, and to provide more universal support during burst, rather than having to decide between casters and physicals (which is now mostly a MCH thing).

    What I mean is: It may be impossible for them to add a 'Speed' stat due to the inability for a single stat to govern both spells and weaponskill in this capacity. I understand what's being asked for, I just think the coding is more...colourful.....than it should have been due to time restraints on the 2.0 release. Making things like this a development time sink to add. (and chocobos while in queue.....or separating FATE/Duty list.......or selecting which quests show........or on and on, you get the point).

While merging the two makes sense for simplifying things. That could only work if both physical and magical timers and DOT's were exactly the same. After all changing one effect's timer or potency could do something unintended for other things if they were all lumped together.

    Physical and magical DoTs use the same server tick. Their is no intrinsic typal difference between magical and physical debuff arming times.

    They need only form a new variable that is merely seen on gear. We could technically have a piece of aetherial gear right now that has skill speed, spell speed, and parry, if not for typal restrictions. Just consider 'Speed' as shorthand for both skill speed and spell speed, and start making it a double-stat on gear. Done.

    We also clearly already have the coding for Attack Speed. They need only decide what percentage or value of base GCD to reduce the GCD by per point of Speed, and apply level scaling. The only change then would be that skill speed would now actually improve AA. As an upside, we can also take out the part where Attack Speed checks Skill Speed and Spell Speed seperately for the final calculated weaponskill- and casting-GCDs. It could be left harmlessly within, but would be redundant.

    skill speed and spell speed do the same thing for the jobs that have them show up on, but there are only two jobs that have any skill that affects auto attacks timing wise; ninja and monk. sklspd/splspd do nothing to change auto attacks. they only affect recast times(gcd) and dots. if you were talking about the part on a weapon that says "delay", that is not tied to the speed stats of the game out side of huton or greased.

    As others have said we have attack speed which lowers cast/recast for magic and physical as well as auto attack delay so it is definitely possible to have 1 stat govern both spell and skill speed.
