a question about a comment Yoshi-P made

I have read that Yoshi-P said "It's hard to believe it's already been 5 years since the release of 1.0, I want to have a 10 year life span for FFXIV" is he counting from 1.0? or 2.0? if Yoshi-P was referring to 1.0 then this game would only have like 4-5 years left, I'd like to see FFXIV have the life span of FFXI starting from 2.0 so that would make it like 11-12 more years.

He's probably not so much saying that he expects the game to end in 10 years, whether he's counting from 1.0 or not, but rather that he's eager to reach that milestone. I don't know if it's just the way he speaks naturally or if his translators don't always render what he says well, but a lot of what Yoshi says comes across as really muddled.

Its obvious he counts from 2.0 launch onwards.He and his team created 2.0 not 1.0. He took over after 1.0. 1.0 is considered another game which died now. 10 years is way too much and he is optimistic saying this. This game will look like tetris in 10 years and probably we will have newer VR MMOs in 10 years. Judging the game now he has too many things to develop to keep this game relevant. Development started to stall and we get recycled ideas over and over. They have a lot of challenges ahead. His team and his budget needs to increase if he wants to keep the game relevant the next 3-4 years let aside the 10 years he mentioned. Don't forget a huge success can easily fail afterwards if they do not maintain it somehow.

While presentation is an aspect, it's far from being the most important thing. You can takea look at a lot of other games which have less emphasize on presentation; it took WoW 4 expansions to finally update their character models (and they're flunking big time for other reasons unrelated to it), but even before that they were relatively successful with probably the most archaic/dated character design.

Your last statement pretty much sums out how 3.0 is turning out right now trying to follow after 2.0. There was a 1/9/16 census uploaded and honestly, it's really depressing to look at how the acive player count has only dropped as the game goes on.
