I'm very picky with beast tribe quests. I only do them if I really like the tribe. So far, only the Ixal pulled me in enough. Well, and the Vath in HW, although I find isnects generally disgusting xD
But their nature is really interesting and somewhat sad and fleeting. I'm totally gonna do their quests, but no interest in getting the mount after I've seen it.

The Gnath remind me a lot of one of the beast races from XII. Since I love that game I'm eager to do their quests in FFXIV. I didn't really like the Vanu Vanu much - the whole 'power of dance' theme didn't appeal to me. I forced myself to push through them though.

    The Vanu are birds.

Birds display to each other, rather than fight, with some exceptions.

I actually thought making their display a dance was extremely clever use of physical characteristics to emphasize cultural differences.

While they weren't the most entertaining in the MSQ (infinitely less so than the Vath), the Vanu still had some amusing sidequests. While it's hard to understand the Sundrop Dance's cultural importance, they are birds and their culture is based on the Maori, so it's hardly surprising.

(And no, I do not do the Sundrop Dance when I'm bored at work and nobody's looking.)

Oh, it was an interesting twist - I'm just not a fan of the WoL using the 'power of dance' to scare off enemies. For once I'd like to see the WoL not master every possible thing that they set about doing. It's really interfering with my enjoyment of the story, even in side quests.

I really liked the Amal'jaa and Sahagin beast tribe dailies. The Sylph and the Kobalds though I found kind of annoying. Novv is awesome and getting an insight into how Ifrit has corrupted Amal'jaa custom and culture is pretty interesting. The Amal'jaa (the traditional ones anyway) have a pretty admirable code of honor.

The Sahagin were my favorite as well. It really gave you a feeling of just how badly the Limsans had destroyed their culture, too.

I love Novv, and he's so sweet, calling you his child. He's the best dad.

I'm expecting the Gnath to be quite interesting, but I got a bittersweet sense from a lot of their side quests, eg, not knowing how to deal with their independence and returning to the one-mind.

The thing with Novv was that he placed his children's future above his own feelings. He certainly has his own darkness in his past. The Sahagin and Limsan war is a tragedy because it is born out of necessity of survival but fuelled by hatred born from the conflict of that necessity that has just spiralled out of control. The Sahagin did what they needed to to survive but it came at the cost of Limsan lives and that wasn't something the Limsans could ignore. And so you have this escalating conflict where one side retaliates for what the other side has done only to invite further retaliation.

Honestly I think the Dragons could learn a thing or two to from Novv about letting go of the past for the sake of your children's future.

That's actually a really good point; send Novv to the dragons, I say. I see a lot of people defending Nidhogg saying that it's as if his sister was almost murdered yesterday, in his mind, but with Novv, his children actually were. Yet he overcame the hatred and promoted peace.

Can I very quickly say how utterly disappointing the Kobold quests were? The lazy guy got off his lazy behind for one scene and went right back onto it. I did think it was kinda cute that he wanted to save his girlfriend but other than that, the only thing I really liked about them was the crazy bomb alchemist. He was hilarious.
