    Quick Leveling

I'm a lvl 36 CNJ. I'm trying to level my Thaumaturge for Swiftcast. I really hate leveling this class though =( I just want to heal.

I've been grinding battle leves, is there a faster way? I read an article that said once I level a class to 50, subsequent classes get a 50% xp boost. Is that true? Can I survive without swiftcast for that long? (I'm a pretty good healer, in my opinion. Very, VERY few wipes and the couple I've had, the group has acknowledged that it was for reasons other than healing).

I want to be a really good healer, so if I need to grind this class out, I'll do it. I'm just looking for some input from those who have walked the path before me =)

Do FATES and queue for dungeons. You can usually do several fates before the queue pops.

Or bring a tank/healer friend with you for fast queues into dungeons.

Battle Leves can work, but only if FATES are sparse.

Also don't forget your Hunting Log.

Happily that's actually not entirely correct, the exp bonus is actually automatic for any class that is lower than your highest level class up to that level, in other words, your THM should be already getting the bonus exp as it's lower than your current class of CNJ/WHM (as long as it's level is lower than your CNJ/WHM).

As for Swiftcast, you can do without it as you can do with any cross class ability, however, it's value will make you a much better healer, especially when you need to raise someone quickly - Swiftcast+Raise on someone KO'd in the middle of battle and that person is literally back on their feet within two seconds, so yeah, it is worth all that effort levelling THM to get.

A further bonus to exp can be gained by logging out in a 'sanctuary' (that is, an area where there is an aetheryte usually) - when you are in a sanctuary you'll see a crescent moon icon appear on your exp bar and the exp bar will turn blue, and for each second you are in there this bonus will start to build up - even while you are logged out this bonus will continue to accumulate, hence logging out in such an area is a very wise thing to do when you are levelling. This bonus will only add bonus exp on individual enemies defeated however, it will not add extra exp to completing quests, leves and FATEs though. But every bit helps.

As for how to gain exp, dungeon running, FATEs, levequests and that class's Hunting Log are pretty much the standard ways of gaining exp, along with sidequests and the main scenario if you're willing to sacrifice their exp for that class and not hold it off for your 'main' class.

Either way, don't be discouraged! You don't have a long way to go levelling THM and once you get Swiftcast you can then put down THM and never touch it again if you don't wish to, so hang in there! Your path as a healer is to be respected and encouraged, so be strong and don't give up! You can do it!

If you have your chocobo, set the difficulty of battle leves as high as you dare for good bonus XP, typically your chocobo cando decent damage, heal or tank acceptable well to boost battle leve or solo FATE. Also swiftcast's primary use is to macro with raise for an instant raise.

Dungeons are your best bet for early Thaumaturge if you're inexperienced, and bringing a chocobo in-between them. I started on White Mage and hated leveling Thaumaturge too because I struggled to manage the phases plus tanking mobs at once. Dungeons take care of this for you, but use Quelling Strikes if you're also going to use Raging Strikes or if you seem to be pulling. Interestingly enough, I'm leveling Black Mage as a second main after Bard now that I'm used to DPS.

You'll survive without Swiftcast, it's just useful when someone dies in the middle of a busy battle. Raise has a long cast time and Swiftcast lets you skip that entirely and get right back to healing or dodging.

For just pure XP grind for battle classes I suggest doing fates both at and 2 to 3 levels above you. XP comes much faster, less delay in between and it doesn't cost you 'tokens' / leves to spam them for a couple hours.

Match this up with running the dungeons right when they open and you'll fly through the first 25 levels or so. If in a FC Battle Ready II and Brave New World II buffs make this even faster.

I also suggest saving up a full catch of rest XP before starting the grind. Just stack as much xp bonus as possible even using weak foods since they still give the same 3% bonus.

Also, don't forget about the challenge log. The weekly bonuses help out a lot!
