There's no listing fee to do that? By the same logic I could mail to an abandoned account and use the retrieve feature as well.

Urm...not sure that's how listing fees work, being that they charge you after the item/s are purchased, and you're putting the price so high so no one buys in the first place... Also, why would you want to buy an account for this? We're talking about saving money, not the other way around...and before you go into the whole "it's abandoned" thing, this is a thread for asking for additional free retainers, whilst discussing strategies to alleviate the problem until it's done. Using an abandoned account as a strategy would entail purchasing another account at some point, so in order to use it as a viable method, money must be spent...no bueno.

Callback did have a good point when he said that, and it's true, the only way this problem will change is if we give them a reason to change it - by not endorsing the pay-for-retainers shtick. Sorry SE...but it is a little lame...

That said, it sounds like Sho86 has a different play style than most of us asking for this (and as much as it bugs me he thinks people are trolls for not playing like him, I'll leave it there...). Most of us who want at least an additional retainer tend to either enjoy the glamour side-game, or want to have as many mats on hand as possible, just for convenience in crafting. Your play style's fine, "Sho" enough, but some of us can't do that and still enjoy the game as much as we're trying. Hence the thread...

I guess I minced my words a bit, and I apologize in that regard. Playing how you want is entirely up to you (obviously), I have no problem with people paying for the max retainers (8?) or whatnot. Although the trolling part to me was asking for something to stop even though your paying for it. Either it is enough of an annoyance for you to not pay and want to make a point, or the pain is enough without the additional service where your game would be 'ruined' in manner of speaking, so you throw it in.

I made the point of calling it a pain because I highly doubt it was made by mistake to be like that. Things like these have no middle ground, and its showing people would rather not go through the extra hassle, so of course SE will continue to throw out whatever excuse they deem worthy. Again, if people feel its worthwhile, no foul on my end as its a personal choice so go nuts; just don't expect things to change or get an official response other than the typical.

Ah, I see. Makes more sense. The thing is, I think most people on this thread are in agreement with you to an extent. Most of us are trying to avoid paying for retainers (see my method of how I'm doing it above if you haven't already) and though some of us may understand why SE's charging for what is essentially server space, it's safe to say it's apparent to us all that the minimal amount of inventory (retainers and all) that we're supplied "naturally" is not sufficient to actually play the game (let alone craft). It feels like a scam, it's probably a scam, and as much as we want SE to make profit to make better content/games (plus feed their families), we don't want to be ripped off in the process.

Personally (and I can't believe I'm saying this...), I don't mind them charging for extra retainers - as long as it's extra retainers. Just two retainers, with as many mats, glamours, and Jobs (read: gear-sets) as there are in this game? That's obviously not enough. So, yes, I agree...it's almost assuredly intentional to force us into paying extra.

Just one more free retainer...I think it'd be feasible for them to give us that. I do not intend to ever pay for an additional retainer, (sorry SE, not gonna happen) and I hope people put enough pressure on SE to help us out in this. I'm glad FFXIV is a success, I intend to play for a long time to come, but...this is one of the things that has to change.

1 for Heavensward and 1 more for each expansion after that. We pay enough to buy the damn thing, it should come with a 1 slot increase in free retainers. Expaneions are the biggest source of new items, and we need somewhere to put it all. Make this a feature and people can at least get by on space.


That and a few other minor inv tweaks like an intangible glamour collection, tackle box, etc.

Another way to not get what we want is by letting them know how well we can make 2 retainers work. It almost seems like you're trying to politely tell me I'm wrong by telling me we don't need more retainers because of how well YOU can manage without them. The tactic of "pressure with your wallet" isn't going to work because NOBODY or at least not nearly enough people are going to even try. Why even bother to try and convince people of that? It's so much easier to say "Hey, you're right, SE give us some retainers!" instead of "Well I manage pretty well without them, I only have 2 retainers and 10 level 60's and this is how I manage-." I would rather say, "look at my bill! this is outrageous!" 1. because it's a fact that I am paying for it 2. because it is outrageous. Now give us some more retainers!!! Please!!

Honestly before heavensward I traded my friends all my extra mats that I won't use yet and put it in my 2nd characters retainer or inventory.

I know someone that bought a 2nd account.

I used one retainer for glamor and one for mats. Now their both glamor and gear. Sold all my mats.
Stuffed my armoire with what I could and now I have some good space.

Clean and Organize.
