What bothers you in this game?

Over on reddit, someone started a thread with this title. I made my list, and having seen how long it got, I wanted to share it over here. I'm hoping to get some good discussion on these points as well as any other gripes other people have. I'm also hoping that some of this may make its way to the dev team.

    1. Gathering - I don't like that I need to swap jobs and use skills for gathering. I'd much rather a system like in GW2 where it's just grab your tool and go - it's much more of a leisure activity.

    2. Crafting - I don't like that you use skills swap jobs for crafting either. I'd much rather a system like Wildstar that allows for customization of stats in what I create, but is a simple interface.

    3. Interface - I don't like that you get errors when you attempt to interact with two interfaces at once (currently occupied etc). This extends to teleport interrupts due to trades, and constantly having to select everything multiple times with confirmation popups etc.

    4. The over-reliance on DPS checks with the ToS against parsers

    5. Hunts design encourages zerg mentality and early pulling

    6. Healer LB gives maximum weakness, making it effectively worthless - as once used everyone dies in 1 shot to anything

    7. Game encourages you to play all jobs on one character, but then limits your ability to gear multiple jobs

    8. Game limits you to gear one job, makes content favor one job, balances this by making jobs homogenized - rather than adding the ability to gear multiple jobs

    9. Secondary stats are worthless and uninteresting. Having 100 CRIT vs 100 Spell Speed will net my SMN slightly less than 1% increase in DPS (or a movement from 1343 dummy parse to 1356). Secondary stats just blanket add to damage, adding no real choice in the matter

    10. Yoshi's response to critiscim is usually 'git gud', 'ps3 limitations', 'server limitations' or 'we understand you think that, but you're wrong.' Instead of 'we appreciate your feedback and will continue to try to improve our services to better suit our playerbase'

    11. MogStation - everything about this.

    12. Maintenance requires a complete shutdown of the server for hours. I wouldn't have realized how annoying this was if I hadn't come from Guild Wars 2 - where you just get "a new build is available, please restart the client" which you could then do when you are available to.

    13. 60 hard cap on dots present and 30 cap on dots visible on enemies in a very DoT heavy game

    14. A heavy focus on giving the sense of forcing people to redo old content, rather than making content that people want to redo

    15. A rapid jump in ilvl's which results in a lot of fun content being outdated practically on release (i.e. you could easily get your 180 law weapon prior to going in to Bismark Extreme)

    16. They continuously add a plethora of tokens/currencies to our inventory rather than just adding it to the currency wallet

    17. A complete lack of a wardrobe system that remembers glamours, resulting in an excess use of inventory space and server usage

    18. A desire to make crafting more desirable than it is - crafting items for Relic was random and just a way to transfer gil to crafters

    19. Materia acquisition through spiritbonding is not fun, and melding through crafters is frustrating

    20. Mentioned elsewhere, but the inability to communicate on LS/FC when in PvP and to send tells / receive while in Dungeons/Raids/Trials

    21. A limited housing system that doesn't allow the majority of players who want to take part in it, to take part in it

    22. A limited housing system that doesn't let you customize the look of your houses exterior build

    23. The entire retainer system, I'd rather have a bank and just be able to both buy and sell stuff from the Market Board

    24. Server side calculations result in a lot of actions (animation and cooldown) going through without the proper effect - i.e. Benediction, Hallowed ground used and the tank dies anyway despite cooldown being triggered

    25. Server side calculations that result in needing to wait for things to register before using something else (i.e. place Bio, wait a sec before Bane/Fester)

That's all I can think of for now. What bugs you?

    Edits n stuff
Thanks for all the responses so far! I'd like to add that this was intended to be more about what bothers you in regards to the game itself, and not to do with your interactions with other players. If you think there is a game design that encourages the poor play by other players, then go ahead and include that for sure. For example:

    26. That there is no warning before Castrum and Praetorium after the numerous complaint threads, regarding the cutscenes and finishing the dungeon. They could simply add "Castrum and Praetorium are both Cutscene heavy duties; however, due to the nature of Duty Finder, many players find they are forced to skip these cutscenes to keep up with the party. We recommend you create a party finder group to fully enjoy the story."

    27. A system that makes things very easy for the average player (main story line quests and duties), and thus encourages people to not perform well in more difficult content (end-game) and often results in people who seek to be carried

    Other stuff I thought of..

    28. Lack of skill, trait and build customization

Lazy people who instead of wanting to improve make excuses on why they cant or why they don't.

1 and most important: Lack of a reset system. If you get a class you don't like, you have to keep it with an uneven level without the option to "discard" that class from your character screen.

It's probably not a huge list for me.

    • Incoming damage is balanced so poorly and DPS checks are set so tightly that tanks wear as much Strength gear as possible and eschew their tanking stances. The game is probably too DPS-focused in general for my tastes, but I feel it's more bothersome with tanks because their gear isn't being properly utilized (and they want gear they can't in fact roll Need on).
    • There's far too much zerg-style content in the game, including Hunts, FATEs, and now, Exploratory Missions. Give us more open world content like maps, which spawn monsters for a specific group, but do that with interesting encounters like some of the Hunt marks are when you *don't* zerg them.
    • The class/job system is currently "uneven," by which I mean there are exceptions to the general structure in ACN having two jobs, and three jobs having no classes. I greatly dislike exceptions in class systems, so this one really bothers me—not enough to ruin the game but man does it grind my gears.
    • Gear doesn't dye consistently. Sometimes, a multi-toned item goes two-toned when you dye it (the typical "dark" color plus a "light" shade of that same color thing), and other times, a multicolored item keeps some color in particular (which can be really useful or at times madenning). I would really like to be able to dye all the various "primary" colors of an item individually.
    • Red Scrips: Just about everything about this bothers me and I've whined enough about it in the DoH forums back in early 3.0. I'm curious but nervous about what 3.2 will bring and if it will fix any of the underlying problems.
    • Some classes share gear in a role and others don't (MNK, DRG, NIN versus, well, everyone else). At one point, I had a sort of working idea of why this was, related to the fact that all three melee have the same basic stat priorities, whereas the other jobs that shared gear typically didn't—thus resulting in their gear priorities being different. But with the adjustments to stats as of 3.0, that's not as much the case as it was. Just about everyone favors Crit > Det > Speed now, with only BLM really deviating from that norm still, which makes the fact that the three melee still get unique sets seem pretty weird to me, as the fact that they'd all want the same exact pieces doesn't seem to matter for all of the other roles.

For the most part, I think those are the major things that bother me.

    Edit to add:

I wanted something like this *so badly* in ARR. I'm something of a roleplayer at heart and for a long time it really bothered me that I had maxed every DoW/DoM/DoH job when Alahra is really not supposed to be all of those things. I eventually got used to it (and I'm one job away from having all 60 DoW/DoMs again), but I honestly would probably drop a few if there were a way for me to do so.

I would like to whisper friends in dungeons instead of having to add them to a private linkshell. ._.

Other than that, it's really not so much an issue with the game as the majority of players I've come across: people get extremely offended VERY easily when you offer simple advice or constructive criticism. |D Had a tank get smart with me when all I said was the party shouldn't be getting hit by Glacier Bash in Shiva EX (it was happening consistently, and that time it killed me, the only healer, causing a wipe). Saw a tank get kicked when he told a DPS he should have said "wait a sec" before the tank started pulling. Been called and asshole for telling the DPS to help me out by killing adds. Made an AST ragequit our Savage linkshell (luckily they had just been invited, lol) by simply pointing out that they shouldn't have been running out of MP in the first 3 waves of A2S if they were doing things correctly and that they should expect to be the primary raid healer since they were healing alongside a SCH.

There are [I]a lot[/I of things that bother me about this game.

Instanced cities and little zones being more important than cities (Idyllshire). I miss the feeling of a hub city from various other MMOs, where people would talk in whatever the global chat was, have political arguments... okay, maybe not that, but it's part of the package! Just the entire social feel, it's gone from FFXIV's hub towns. I want to be able to just jump on my flying mount while in Ala Mhigo, and then fly over to the market district, and then fly to the tomestone trader without any loading screens, and so on, also have a more universal chat that's not /shout. Little zones are pointless to me, there isn't even a marketboard and it's a complete dump until the end of the expansion, and even then it's still a dump. I don't understand why they spent so much time developing Ishgard if they're gonna send us to that dump.

Dungeons not feeling like part of the world, in WoW for example I can run up to any dungeon and enter it without any issue, same goes for raids. In FFXIV I run up, click this little blue thingo and queue, worst part is some dungeons don't even make sense. Where is Neverreap on the map? Why is Fractal so much larger on the inside than it is on the outside?

I guess that would all fit into the world feeling disconnected and the lack of any real social interaction outside of FC/LS, it's one of the worst MMO worlds I've been in due to that feeling. The art direction is nice though, so that's a plus.

The two major things that bother me the most are:

Almost a complete lack of mid-tier content. Everything is either super easy, or ridiculously difficult.

More and more, I'm getting so annoyed with the weekly caps. This goes hand in hand with what OP said in number 7 of her list. I have 7 jobs that I love, and instead of playing the game to work toward making those jobs well-geared, it takes you 8-10 weeks to gear one single job because of the Eso weekly cap. The cap has always been there (Myth, Poetics, etc.) but it's really starting to get on my nerves.

Mostly the limitations. Like said previously, the no whisper/tell in dungeon, locked out of FC tab in dungeon, etc.

One garden on small FC plot, though it's not that bad I guess.

Lazy players, or players that try to stifle progression.

Ventures. The items they bring back are terrible, always, even with i190+ on almost all of them. I feel like the system should/could be reworked in that you WONT get certain items above a certain ilvl. Do you know how annoying it is to spend 2 ventures and get back numerous crappy low level fish all day every day when I do it? Yeah Yeah RNG. Or, they could add in a new quick venture that greatly increases the odds of better items for like 10-20 ventures per hour.

No designated areas to flag for pvp. I'm not saying I want open world pvp at all times. But an area like WoWs Gurubashi Arena would be nice.

Not enough mounts, and most of them use the same boring music.

    RMT.

    Materia could be better.

    ATMA.
