Returning Player - Gil Seller Spam

I posted this the other day in a topic that I can no longer find. So I will repost it here;

Three points to make before the numbers.

1. SE is absolutely going after RMTs
2. SE is absolutely going after players
3. RMT have to be making a crap ton of $$ to finance the accounts they burn

which means that the biggest RMT issue is the inconsiderate idiots who continue to buy gil.

That is all well and good, but from a player standpoint, nothing has changed. I get as many RMT messages as I did more than a year ago. The volume has not gone down at all. It's irritating as hell. Whatever they are doing, it's not enough. In my playthrough earlier, I blacklisted about 20 people. I may end up using the /busy option as well, but I shouldn't have to just to play a game I'm paying a subscription fee for.

The question I have and I am sure other players do is SE current banning methods working?

They have always considered the wait till we can grab and announce X amount. While other games that seem to have less spam and bots go with the reported/banned policy. All you can see is less spam and bots. Is it because they act instead of react? Or do they have a better filter system and it is just an illusion that its better? Or maybe it is simply other games spend more money on man power that deals with instant banning. I blame SE for lots of stuff I know they are complacent about. I am not sure this is one. With out knowing why other games handle it better.

Look on the bright side, at least you're not one of those poor sods on Mateus where RMT spammers pop up every 5 seconds... Wait a minute, I'm on Mateus! AAHHHHHH!!!!

It got much better after SE removed the possibility to use /tell on a trial account.
But now the RMT buy the base game (ARR) for just $5 and are back in the /tell business.

I think gil seller spam only happens in NA servers. I'm on Zodiark and I rarely get a tell.

On Jenova it's every couple minutes i get RMT tell spam. Sometimes i get 2-3 right in a row. Limsa ALWAYS has a RMT bot spamming /say near the aetheryte as well.

That's partially because Jenova is smaller, more populated servers don't have as rmt issues because the server locks character creation.

I still get tells but I no longer see them as I muted them and moved them to a different chat log its a piss poor stopgap as I can miss legit tells but its better than the spam

come to a jp server like mine and you get zero RMT tells

I strongly suggest staying in busy mode to filter away all tells. Yes that sucks if you have a friend you want to talk to, but it does manage to block the gil seller spam too. If you need to talk to a friend, suggest using a private LS, FC chat, or finding where they are and using good ole say.

It would be nice if they would add in more granular control - such as allowing tells from friends/free company members only. I guess I will have to resort to busy for now - it's driving me insane (and even more of a pain to block on the PS4 where I'm playing at the moment).
