NOTE - It seems like I can't create a poll yet, I would have loved and totally intended to but I guess that might have to wait. However, I would very much appreciate it if a GM could make one for us with the Headings (Types of Gamers).
I've seen similar threads elsewhere but not here. I've made similar threads on other forums to interesting responses, so here goes nothing ^_^
The Quick List of Gamers (You may be multiple ones)
Generic Gamer \ True Gamer
A quickly dying breed. Used to be known as nerds, and proud of it, Generic Gamers grew up with the industry and played games such as Chrono Trigger, Super Mario Bros., and Zelda: Link to the Past. Typically will play just about any game/genre and usually prefers retro games.
MMORPG: Middle ground gamer, plays 'em with skill and steadily improves, will stay up for the over nighters, but isn't afraid to give the game a break and play another game for an evening.
Lamer \ Brah Gamer
Makes up about 30% of the gaming population. First owned console is usually an xbox 360 or ps3, is what makes Xbox Live and PSN network so terrible and annoying. Known to say "brah" a lot, wears brand names clothing and backwards caps, usually with a beer in hand, and only plays Halo or Madden games. Everything else is too "kiddy". They like to brag and complain a lot though, strangely enough..

MMORPG: They don't. Social lives, girls, and going to bars takes up too much of their time.
Casual Gamer
Majority of the gamers these days. Prefer to play for an hour or so at max, once every so often a week. They are willing to pay full price for less of a game not minding that the game has much less content than typically placed within games of the same class. Loves to play party games such as Carnival Games for wii. Being targeted by the industry because of great numbers and willingness to pay full price for less of a game.
MMORPG: Plays a few hours a week. Typically takes a year or so to meet max cap when it takes even other gamers a month or two to do so. Dislikes MMORPG titles using lengthy and stale mechanics such as raids and long leveling periods (not that others aren't complaining loudly about this).
The Blood Rager
Plays for the pure pleasure of destroying. Can't destroy things enough, every death upon another being is deserved, and any amount of blood is not enough. Usually only plays PvP games and enjoys dominating others far more than playing the game itself. As long as people are dying, especially if they are unhappy about it, it doesn't matter if they win or lose.
MMORPG: PvP master, usually does nothing else. Kills the weakest of players as a hobby and enjoys dominating players in any form of competition be it highest DPS or most kills in an arena.
The Merchant
A real baron and trader, plays simply for the joy of collecting items and making profits. Hates losing currency and are typically the richest and best geared of players. Plays the market like a flute and often whores out crafting in any possible.
MMORPG: Stated above, usually richest players and crafting masters. Masters of the auction house or other market center as well.
The Star
Loves to be popular and well known. Typically posts constantly on the forums and tries to achieve accomplishments they will receive fame for.
MMORPG: Join the most hardcore of guilds and try to find ways to improve their popularity. Very vocal and sometimes generous, granting large amounts of assistance, gold, items, and time to get others to like them and spread the word.
Hard Core Gamer
Small portion of the gamer community. Want to be the best at anything they can, crunching numbers and max-min-ing their characters. Are sometimes elitist and look down on "lessor" players. Respects power and dedicates oneself wholly to a cause. Will power through an RPG in half the gameplay time with just about everything in tow and completed.
MMORPG: The best players forming the best guilds playing the most amount of time with the best gear. They like being the best, put a lot of work into doing so, and sometimes look down on others who aren't on the "best" list.
The Adventurer
Loves to experience and nothing more. Loves the thrill of exploring a new world with new characters and eagerly awaits the next dungeon/town/level/region. Will play and buy games to explore them and quickly gets bored if nothing new is presented quickly or if there is a lot of back tracking.
MMORPG: These are the explorers and enjoy nothing more than finding the most remote secrets of every MMO world. Quickly becomes bored of a game if they've seen everything even if they are not maxed level or geared out or if there's pvp. Will explore difficult regions for fun regardless of level and farm for the supplies needed to do so.
The Story-liner
This gamer just want's the be immersed in an enthralling story-line with interesting characters that are facing tough decisions. This type of gamer likes to find answers.. and fast and absolutely loves 20 minute cutscenes and FMV's.
To this gamer, once the end credits are rolling the game is beaten and the disk is already being taken out... unless there is a secret ending after the credits.
This gamer cares not for trophies, bragging rights or what unlocks are left unlocked. The story is all that is wanted.
MMORPG: Is the type not to even try MMO's unless they seem interesting. Will spend all their time reading every bit of text possible in the game to find the storyline and know what is going on with the characters. Once this gamer has discovered there are no stories in MMO's they either proceed to become social gamers, talking with their guild and making other players feel better about what level they are.. or they will unfortunately cancel their subscription and got back to re-play earlier offline titles.
The Romance Gamer
This type of gamer loves playing romance games like visual novels or dating sims. However, this can also apply to those who don't play such games. Gamers who like having some romance in the games they play as much as possible also fit into this category. Romance especially between the main characters of the game is what these gamers like.
Action Gamer
This gamer likes playing Action type of games, stuff like Uncharted which is a combination of Action/Adventure and also games like Halo, MGS, God of War, Bayonetta all come in this category. This can combine with 'Blood Rager gamer' type but is there for people specific to this category who don't like just killing and like these games for what they are.
The Achiever
This type of gamer likes to achieve all the achievements or trophies for a certain game along with 100% completion etc.
Older gamer (Thanks to Shadygrove!)
Remembers B&W TV. Grew up with board games and card games. Probably played chess and/or bridge. Probably a PC gamer gamer first and through today. If they had kids they might be / have been platform gamers as well.
MMO, online, or offline makes little difference as a demographic class, although individuals will have probably played in fewer styles / genres of games than younger gamers.
Short attention span gamer (Thanks to Shadygrove!)
Can spend hours a day in games but rarely 2 hours straight in any game.
MMOs: Suffers from altitis, game hopping, and is often found cruising betas with intent to apply.
The Role-player (Thanks to chime85!)
Most of the time they have come from other role-playing styled games. Either in other MMO's or as a hobby outside computer games. They would rather think of their character as a person, instead of a player.
MMO: These players tend to form groups quickly amongst themselves and would roleplay with their character more than achieving XYZ. Often friendly and helpful to talk to. However, these players do have a tendency to make a few additional policies of their own. Although not officially enforced, it is generally a courtesy to follow these guildelines when communicating with Roleplayers.
Would fit play styles/roles around their character's backround, instead of what would be considered the best number cruncher.
Which are you? Have any "types" of your own that think should be on the list? Don't agree with some of these? Well post away!
