Authenticator button starting to fail

I have a Digipass GO6 authenticator from the FFXIV version 1 collector's edition. Unfortunately, it's started to take considerable effort to get the OTP to display; the button is failing to activate most of the time. Because of the fact that this is an auth from the 6th Astral Era, I'd rather be able to keep this authenticator for as long as possible instead of having to replace it. (Rather a point of pride, personally.)
I'm thinking of prying it open myself to replace the membrane switch. The thing stopping me is concern over whether or not it will continue to work properly. I know that there are tamper-resistant features on the authenticator (having also looked at the manufacturer's website). It appeared to me that these features were centered around making sure the tampering was apparent, rather than towards breaking the device for security purposes. This I can live with, but I'm not sure that my interpretation is correct.

Basically: If I open my authenticator (or rip off the big red button) and replace the switch, will it still work?

I've had 2 fail on me in the same way. I believe that the reason it is failing is the battery is about to run out. I was too scared to open it up since I believe that removing the battery will stop it working. I'm currently using the app authenticator but have a 3rd hardware one if the app pisses me off

On the technical side it will work (if done properly). On the other side I'm unsure, depends on how the wiring is done and what will disconnecting or breaking by opening. but to be sure you should take him from your account and reconnect him later on again, cause it could be that he lost his identity by opening cause of wired wiring. I hope it will work for you.

I would be very wary of opening these things up. We had a similar tool for the email/VPN system at work & they needed to be sent away when they failed. From what I was led to believe some contain anti-tamper devices so that opening or removing/replacing batteries etc invalidated the "fixed key" used to create the login code. The result being a locked account.

I'd just buy a new key & keep the existing one as a relic, unfortunately.

Have to agree with Culfinrandir. Although I've never opened up this particular authenticator myself, I believe it'll "reset" upon disassembly (so if put back together right it'll still work at generating numbers, but it'll no longer be synchronised with code on the back aka useless), time to replace it or switch to a smart phone solution, sorry!

If you are ordering it today it will take up to 28 days to arrive. If it's really bad and you have an iOS or Android phone I would recommend the app which is still working fine for me after a month

Ugh. Ok, so the risk outweighs the reward, especially since I don't remember my Removal password.
Well, I definitely can't keep using this thing if it takes me five minutes each time.
