    Is there a lore/ reason why this item looks so silly? Why does the rod have a comedic talking face?

    It's similar in design to a few of the other weapons that have existed previously (see: Tane Mahuta, Madman's Whispering Rod.)
    As to the lore, the best I've got is, well, treants exist and are made of wood. You make this type of weapon by taking a stick and applying growth formula to it to make it grow into the right shape and size to work with. This kind apparently grew a treant face.
