Scions - cheapskates?

They ask us to go kill primals but pay between 5 and 10k for it. Thats how much a basic weapon of comparable level costs from a NPC seller, and at Heavensward level you cant even buy a shirt for that much.

I know we aren't doing this just for the money, but doesn't that show just how much they value our help?

Especially since they be buying new houses and outfits left and right like its nothing.

Yep, they tell you to go kill phantom gods and pay you pocket change. That said running the Scions is not cheap because of all the stuff we don't see them do, so it's fairly understandable; it's so bad Tataru felt the need to take up mining and sell crystal clusters for cash. Regardless, you'd think they'd put more value on their invaluable asset, but nope, we're furnished with nothing but circumstantial tools to take on the phantom god of the week, if that.

... but it's all for the greater good, so it's totally fine to do that.

I think the addition of equipment to the 2.X MSQ helps a bit. It gives off the view that, at the very least, they're trying to outfit you properly rather than making you buy all of your God slaying tools out of your own pocket.

Well they are a non-profit organization and prior to the massacre had a lot of staff, some of which may've been echo users.

Granted, in 3.0 Tataru was able to somehow design a staff that even a Padjal (E-Sumi Yan) would have some trouble wielding (his words)

Though i think they had more support from the moneterist (lolorito esp.) When they were still in the waking sands than when they moved to rev. toll

Better than Grand Companies, who pay their soldiers in the Eorzean equivalent of Rupees. At least Rowena gives me Scrips and Gil when I trade in stupid crafted stuff... Forget a flood of Light/Darkness, the real threat facing Eorzea is drowning in all the Company Seals we keep getting... Sh*ts more common than air...

Actually what really happened was Minfilia bankrupted the Scions with the cost of her breast enhancement surgery.

So their coffers are empty and therefore can only pay you peanuts to kill primals.

By the time you really become a major asset to them, you're famous enough that you've probably got artisans begging you to use their weapons and armor, or being offered paid endorsement deals for everything from kiddie cereal to orthopedic underwear everytime you set foot in Ul'Dah. And in Heavensward you've got your sugar daddy Haurchefant to take care of you...they probably just assume you can manage your own gear.

Assuming you can take care of your own gear is just like assuming someone will have the necessary tools to do their job when they're hired. And while we may be famous now, they supplied us with nothing I can remember to go take on our first three (hell, they were unable to do so at all for the last of the "starter trio"), and nobody gives us anything for free despite all the effort we put into saving their skins time and again.
