    Sharlayan & Poroggo

I've been FATE grinding for crystals, and by the sounds of some of these FATE stories, the Sharlayans were really a bunch of jerks to the Poroggo by just up and abandoning them.

I'm curious just how intelligent are these creatures, and is it possible that they've created societies since the city was evacuated? I've yet to explore ever nook of the story, so I may have missed something.

I'm assuming we'll be getting a beastman quest series for the Moogles, eventually. However, I'm hoping that the Poroggo get their story fleshed out a bit as well.

The Sharlayan's left it one night IIRC, they seem to have left a lot of possibly dangerous stuff behind, hell, some of the stuff in the Arbouretum could cause mayhem if it escaped.

Familiars imbued with intelligence and left behind in the Exodus seems to be a common Sharlayan theme. I thought, though I'm not positive, that various NPCs Poroggos / FATEs / quests hinted that the familiars became more feral after their masters left them behind. (at the very least, I don't believe any Poroggos outside of Matoya's speak Eorzean)

Considering a rather famous familiar in the Void Ark quest and her sentience persisting at least a couple thousand years, it's not unreasonable to assume some Sharlayan familiars might be intelligent enough to form societies after their masters' departure.

That said, you're right. Sharlayans are pretty much jerks all around and when they tucked their tails running from Garlemald they left way too many potentially dangerous things behind.

    Baseless speculation

The same Poroggos from FFXI? The intelligent frog monsters? I'm on the Lv57 MSQs right now.

I am curious as to why they left them? Wouldn't it be simpler to take away their sentience since they gave them it in the 1st place?

But then again that gets into a rather morally murky situation since many Poroggo (at least with Matoya) are distressed when their sentience is threatened to be taken away (albeit jokingly, but the possibility is there). So taking away that is akin to murder.

As it stands they're magically altered frogs given a form of intelligence (and self awareness), but whether or not their inherit such traits or a born regular frogs is left unsaid.

Until then, I wouldn't call them a beast tribe simply their existence is really similar to those talking magicked brooms, albeit more advanced.

I forget the lore of Poroggos in FFXI, but they were also product of experiments, too. They were in the Wings of the Goddess expansion.

If I remember right, their sentience would wane anyway. As for why they didn't bring them back? I got no clue. Maybe the Old World had no frogs so bringing them back would be making them invasive species.

Or maybe they were abandoned by order of the Forum (Specifically the Bibliothecs) with the intention of waiting for their sentience to diminish and locking the secrets of the ability to uplift animals' intellect away to avoid Garemald's attention (Since they A: had an Eorzean colony and B: Garelemald was invading primarily to exterminate the beast-like (or plant-like in the Sylphs' case) beastmen due to the Primals, and thus would be suspicious of any sentient non-human life)

I wonder if the Sharlayans took their brooms with them. I don't remember fighting any rogue brooms.

Well its possible, being non living constructs, they lost their enchantment faster. Generally long surviving enchantments seem to either be maintained or have some form of power source like a golem's core or bound voidsent.

On the other hand perhaps the Sharlayans took non living things over living because of the ease of storage an maintenance. If the evacuation was rushed they might not have had much room and a broom stores a bit better than a 3 foot tall sentient frog.

But yes, recent lore has indicated that the Sharlayans were in many ways jerks.

Another thing I found curious from the Frog Days of Summer FATE.

When abandoning their Eorzean settlement, the Sharlayans left more than their tomes and their tuffets, they left their poroggo familiars, who now, after waiting patiently for their masters to return home, have decided it is time to release over thirty summers of pent up rage.
I was under the impression that the evacuation took place fifteen years ago. Does Eorzea have two summers a year, or are there some other details that I am unaware of?
