This is just incorrect. Lowering team DPS never results in a faster run.

IF you are unable to keep yourself alive when the tank loses hate, and you wipe, then sure. Though, it's not hard to just keep yourself alive while you DPS.
Regardless of whether or not it slows down the run, it's very obnoxious to make the run deliberately more difficult for a Tank that's learning and/or struggling because " *scoff* I don't really need you that much *scoff* ". It's quite clear that some Tanks despise that behaviour too and just run with the "You can tank it then" mentality out of sheer annoyance. It's not unlike those players who decide to dictate for the Tank just how many mobs he shall pull at any one time by grabbing them themselves and forcing the tank out of their comfort zone by making them hold more than they had intended.
