This is why I suggest feeling out the group as you go along.

Especially if you don't know them. But if you have a tank that isn't well-geared or on top of his game? Then you are just banging your stubborn head against a wall by trying to DPS on top of heals.

Which, as I point out, is entirely your decision to make. Meanwhile, I'm finished with the dungeon and back in the instaqueue healing another one. YMMV.

BTW, I had the same experiences with the DF in WoW. I always play healers or tanks. And I've always found it best to adapt TO my PUG instead of expecting it to adapt to me. Besides, if I feel I am a *good* player-- then I can make that work much more easily than expecting the other players to do it for me.
