    Economy Question

Where does all the gil come from?
After 5 months of play, without crafting I have about 1.5 million gil.
I recently started gathering/crafting and have made an additional 750k in the last week or so.

Considering all the gil in the game comes from selling items to NPCs or drops from monsters/dungeons how do people earn enough to buy what they want off the marketboard?

Basically as there's a finite-ish level of gil in the game and you pay for things like teleports I'm trying to find out how you can have items selling for what they do.
As there aren't that many crafters/gatherers and you can charge 100k plus for many items.

So some people basically have to have millions upon millions of gil from farming.
Is there some rewarding activity I'm missing? Or is it just because people have played forever? (though by my count they should still have only earned like 10-15 million max with dungeon drops).

    Unless (conspiracy theory hats/joke incoming):
SE randomly buys items off the marketboard to stimulate gil creation?

Basically everything comes from dungeons and quests. There would be infinite inflation but things like teleports and repairs, MB tax and what not help keep it to a reasonable minimum. It's easy to earn 100k per week or more just doing daily dungeons.

But basically yea, it's just built up over the last couple years (inflation)

That's just how markets work. Thousands of ppl supplying mats, buying mats, making items, spiritbonding for materia, farming dungeons for rare minions/mats, etc etc. We all work together on a little something and we all get to enjoy a piece of pie.

If you want to actively make more money then you're on the right track with gathering/crafting. Full time crafters/gathers could be a bit more detailed but basically look around on the MB for any items that have a heart, those are in demand items. See what's selling and make some money. I'd say gathering is probably the easier one to make money with, low investment compared to crafting.

    Things that create gil:
    - Rewards from quests, levequests, FATEs, and duty roulettes
    - Autoselling items to NPCs
    - Gil dropped by enemies, especially in dungeons
    - Challenge log rewards
    - Housing auto-demolition refunds

    Things that remove gil:
    - Teleportation fees
    - Market board tax
    - Buying items from NPCs
    - Repair fees
    - Purchase of housing plots

The activities in the first set tend to create more gil than is removed by the second set, for someone who does not interact with the player economy. The rest is simply redistribution of that extra gil in exchange for goods and services.

    I get 6 silver allag pieces every 18 hours x 8 retainers.
Also clear demimateria but I think both of these count as "autoselling items to npc"

Still that's 24,000 every 18 hours and i've got an alt with 8 level 60 retainers as well so 48,000.

I personally think that with the housing buzz it will lower the inflation, or at least that is my hope.
