I agree, so In conclusion people will leave that game for Various reasons, But I really don't see a lot of people leaving, Its always the 5-10 people that are sprouting Doomsday for the Game when the Game holds ALOT more then that :P. They think they run the Game! hahamost forum goers are either hardcore fans, people who just like to hang in forums(like me) or people who have an extreme beef with the game(mostly this)
this holds true for most forums in most games
people who are enjoying the game are too busy playing to be on forums usualy
there is bout 5-10 fanboys hangin around posting same crap too. i think i might pay tho just so i can troll the forums till it comes out, and since i got the money to waste.
the moment you pay for even 1 month, you pretty much have proven our point
you are willing to pay for the game
so :P
do it! we dare you

Honestly speaking, even though I'm not going to pay I'm still warming up for the sub fee now that some things have been explained.
Basically knowing that some of the things they've been working on to appeal to the current players will be going to dumpster once 2.0 arrives must have been a tough decision to make.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had the other option to simply adjust the current build with features that will be moved over while working fulltime on the 2.0 build at the same time.
Knowing that they are working "extra" for the sake of the current playerbase, which is by no means large any way you look at it, and knowing that the current players must somewhat enjoy the game to keep playing it even in it's current state, asking for a fee is not really unreasonable.
Of course going with the other option would have meant more free playtime for all, but on the other hand the updates up until 2.0 would have been rather lackluster as well, so with the free playtime also comes less quality content. So, both have their advantages and disadvantages, and it seems they came to a decision that making the experience as good as possible to the current players even if they had to pay for the extra expenses, was the way to go.
Of course this is just me, but honestly speaking if we didn't have to pay a dime I wouldn't expect all the extra content either. Since either way we are getting the 2.0 build for free, and we have played for 15 months free as well. SE has nothing to prove as far as appeasing the playerbase goes, now they need to get 2.0 out and make it good. That's the best thing they could do to fix their mistakes for all of us.
If some players still think that after 15 months of free playtime they still haven't gotten their money's worth (plus a free game once its done), regardless of the quality of said playtime the quantity should more than make up for it. Lets face it: If there was nothing enjoyable about playing this game you wouldn't have done so for the past 15 months.

I spoke to someone in Account Management 3 days ago:
We are sorry to hear you have taken such a long to find the payment options.
The cost for Final Fantasy XIV is ?12.99 for a period of 30 days including a single character. Also additional playable characters will be ?3.00 per service.
Please bear in mind the 30 day free trial for Final Fatasy XIV has been extended until further notice. During this time frame playable characters & retainers linked to the account will be free of charge. Billing will only start at the end of that period.
Do not hesitate to contact us again if you need more information.
Kind regards,
Direct quote from the mail response they sent me (which is in euros)
Hmmm let's see:
Final Fantasy XI: £8 per first char, £1 per extra - I'd happily pay this.
If the 12.99 euro rumour is correct, I'll be paying £11.32 per First char, and £2.60 per extra.
As Yoshida has said this game is 50% complete (to the standard of FF MMO's, -OR- the expected standard of current gen MMO's at release) why am I paying more for less?
Edit2: Also: £11~ -> 13 Euros (about) -> $18.
EIGHTEEN DOLLARS?! Seriously?

Didn't he actually say "We are 50% of the way towards the Final Fantasy feel"?Hmmm let's see:

lol and this game is not a sinking ship , i really enjoyed after 1.19
Q: Hello. I started playing after release, but I quit after hitting rank 30. I plan to come back. In your eyes, what do you think is the main feature of the game in its current state? It would help a lot if you can clear that up for players that are planning to return to the game.
A: It’s hard to say in its current state. We are only about 50% done regarding content. However, if we are talking about 1.19, I would have to say chocobos and Ifrit will be the main content. Everyone should get that FF-feeling with this content.

Very well. I withdraw that statement.Q: Hello. I started playing after release, but I quit after hitting rank 30. I plan to come back. Well, you're right. He did say everyone should get the FF feel with the added chocobo, airship and Ifrit content.
I'm happy to pay for this game. What I'm not happy with, is the amount, and kinda the start date of the payment duration.
Reasonable price? I'm here till FFXI-2 get's released(inb4 haters gon' hate)
