Why are JP avatars with pumpkin head but the others don't? I demand a pumpkin head for the morbol! /o/

About the post...well, IMO an one-time character revamp (race/name/gender change) should be allowed...but with 3 restrictions:

-Those with reserved surnames (the ones who migrated names from FFXI) wouldn't be able to change surname (but changing name is a must...i don't want to change from a lalafat F to a roe M and my character still being named "Lady Peach"...it would be, at least, wrong).

-Those who decide not changing the name should have it reserved, even if not playing by that time (would suck i having a break until 2.0 and when i come back i'm being forced to change name because during this character revamp someone took my name).

-Friendlist/blacklist names should be updated accordly with the new name (like if i am in someone's black list and i change my character's name to Apple Pie, then it should show at friend/black lists "Apple Pie (Lienn Deleene)" for those who already had me at friend/blak list prior the one-time change becoming availble).

Still, persionally i'm against this change. Allowing this, just like alowing server transfer too, is a way of offering RMTs and cheaters a way of selling/buying/stealing accounts. They change server, revamp the character and no one in the new server (or even in the older one that happens to move to that server) would know the character.

For me, the way a character was built is part of it as a whole and should never be changed. If i was who decided the changes options, it would be like making the character younger/older, fatters, gorgeous, slim...but never changing the character nature...if he's a crimson-skinned hellsguard M named Rear Flower, then he should always be a crimson-skinned hellsguard named Rear Flower...he could get older...get a beard, white hair, get fatter...but never changing the character nature.

The bottom line is there is no harm in it.

And, if SE allows it without charging like Blizzard does, that would be a very good mark for the company.

I think it would be a nice middle ground. There are a ton of things they could do with the database, this could be one of them. In WoW, there were resources you could use to track players if they changed their name or even transferred servers, it did it by checking gear, stats, and achievements. If they integrated this into the lodestone, it would solve the problems people have with character re-customization, in my opinion.

Just let anyone change to anything and go through the whole creation the process the first time we all log into 2.0. There are supposed to be so many different changes that it is only fair to let everyone create a new/look race. What if the changes in the races with the new engine make the one you are playing no longer to your liking. Just let us change.

    Thank you

this is what i was asking the in the forums the other day.

lighting makes a huge difference in the way your hair/skin complexion actually look in game. one of my characters skin looks greyish in the character select but looks very violet in game which is not what i wanted, it looks very feminine in game.
ive used these names in video games for a long time and recently fell in a love with a new name that im dying to change to.
please allow us a at least a one time race/name change upon 2.0... i really am counting on it as every other MMO has this feature.

I'm again in favor of allowing it once per account, period. I wouldn't even allow it again in the future for paid purposes, unless new races are again introduced... I do think I agree with Yoshi's worries that it would be very strange for, under otherwise normal circumstances, people to be changing races left, right, and overnight. But, that said, these are not normal circumstances, so I think the option should be there, be there for free, and be available once. However, I do hope it isn't forced on you the instant you launch the 2.0 client, as having some time to think about it (perhaps keeping the option open within the login/character selection menu during the entirety of the 2.0 Free-to-Play period) would certainly be nice.

After that, charge $10 for any further race changes to prevent abuse.

I really hope the word "immersion" does not pop up in this thread.

I absolutely feel it is important to allow existing players the opportunity to convert their character models to another race/gender. I think a one time free option should be available to any player. I am undecided on whether or not to allow additional changes for a fee - if that were also allowed, it would need to be a high enough fee to prevent players from doing this often. I am personally leaning towards a one time free and that is it, and perhaps limit this opportunity to a short time frame - during the free to play period would suffice.

If lore needs to be addressed, I think there are several ways this could be accomplished. Players could "awaken" from a deep sleep and dimly recall either an alternate life or simply a dream of another life or even from a dream about another character's life. Upon waking, the player would be in the new gender/race. Someone earlier mentioned something about "seeing one's true self" - that would also work well.

The entire world map will be changed through a catastrophe - surely if the devs require some lore reasoning behind a race/gender change, this can certainly be not much different. New world, new race/gender - why not? The catastrophe could have changed many things beyond the map. Imps and other mobs have been hiding inside goats and other creatures in the existing world - and are only revealed when something violent or magical reveals them. Players who chose the race/gender change could have also been secretly masked by some spell. Perhaps such players could even have had been trapped within the Necrologis mechanism. Just as not all goats hide imps, not all players were actually hidden by such witchery.

However, should the devs decide to forgo any lore, I would not at all be opposed to having a simple character change during the free period that occurs without any story attached. Either way works for me.
